Sony launches PS3 compatible mobile phone

First handset from Sony Ericsson to feature PS3 Remote Play
Sony Ericsson has launched the PS3 compatible Aino mobile phone handset.

The device offers Remote Play functionality, enabling users to access and control their PS3 media content on the go via a local network or the internet.

Sporting a 3 inch TFT display, the handset replicates the buttons of a PS3 controller on its touch screen. It lets owners turn a PS3 on and off, browse and control the XMB interface, access the internet and any DRM free media content saved on the hard drive, sign in to the PS3 network and message friends, shop for items in the PS3 store and watch and record live television using PlayTV.

"Media Home and Remote Play with PlayStation 3 are key steps in broadening the entertainment experiences users can enjoy on their Sony Ericsson phone and gives a taste of our vision of the future," said Alexandre Cardon, Sony Ericsson's marketing business manager.

It allows you to access the internet, so long as you are connected to it via the internet?

So it gives you internet, through internet. I think Sony found out we liked internet, so they put an internet in our internet so we can internet while we internet

That does sound pretty slick. A neat idea, IMO, though I doubt I'd buy a new phone for any gaming system just for those functions. If I were already in the process of looking for a new phone, then it might be a different story.

Reminds me of some DELL commercials a few years back where you could only order a DELL online...Erh. If I don't have a PC and I'm looking for a PC, then how exactly would I be able to order a DELL PC (presuming one doesn't have access to a public library with PCs, etc.)?
The_KFD_Case on 14 Oct '09
Hmm, I can't really see the point of this to be honest. I'm not Sony bashing as i generally like their phones, but what is the point of accessing photos and the like if you could store them all on the phone anyway?

Maybe I am just being shortsighted, but I won't bother with this when I ipgrade my phone and finally get around to getting a PS3.
monty_79 on 14 Oct '09
well sony have my c905 in for repair and the to$$ers are going to take 3 weeks to repair it. in the meantime no phone replacement and you still have to pay your monthly sub. stupid, so i'm not going to buy another sony phone.

oh and whilst i'm having a bitch, my dad bought a ps3 slim about 4 weeks ago, then a few days ago it decided it didn't like playing bluray discs, films or games. to be fair Sony swapped it out the next day which was amazing service, but it goes to show that the build quality isn't that great. my ps3 slim is fine but then again so are my two 360's.

frikkin crappy hardware!

I was raving about this phone until I found out you can only use the touch screen for the media players?!?! whats the point of that?? Surley a better Idea would be to get rid of the keypad or at least have the option. Think i'm gona wait for the X2 cheers Wink
rak49 on 14 Oct '09
Grassyhopper will surely cream his little Y fronts over this!! Imagine being able to take photos of his Chav motor whilst at the same time connecting to his DVD player......
Wow

Not too sure if I'd use this other than watching videos or listening to music stored on my PS3's hard drive.

Nice additional anyway, for those with a PS3 and dont mind using Sony Ericsson handsets (they can be a little sluggish though).

Contract up soon so it may be worth considering.

You could try the newer Sony Ericsson Satio, it has no keypad and contains a 12 megathon pixel camera built in as standard (if a little expensive). Not too sure if the Staio is compatible to PS3 though.

After having my last SE phone break 4 times despite never been dropped and being well looked after, I shall avoid them for a while....will give the palm pre or a LG phone a go.

errrr no.

Dell's have been able to be ordered by phone since 1985 as well as the internet since late 90's.

the tagline originally was "were not in the shops" which allowed them to offer the latest spec pcs (built to order) rather than building a bunch for a retailer which took months to sell.

It's good to see that you are certain we are referring to the exact same TV ads considering that DELL has numerous advertisement campaigns around the world in different countries... Rolling Eyes

1) More memory on the PS3 to store more photos without taking up limited memory on your phone.

2) Obviously security, if you loose your phone you wont loose your photos. Unless your thick enough to mislay your PS3.

Never mind getting Vidzone and Iplayer on it.

still waiting for mine from vodafone, its a free upgrade, and who said sony ericssons are sluggish? thier the best phones out there and have been for the past 3-4 years,
StokedUp on 14 Oct '09
I use my psp to watch stuff at work. I have to encode it first. Would be great to be able to remote play when not in wireless network, as ps3 (500gb) is full of video. Except remote play over internet has always been flawed for me - audio out of sync or video choppy. And remote start just doesnt work over internet (on local network its fine). I don't think this phone will improve remote play over internet.
Bluetooth tethering on PSPGo should achieve similar results - except I can't get that to work either.
Jimmy the dog on 14 Oct '09
I'm really not keen to get another Sony Ericsson since the K800 which was a pretty bad and sluggish phone. Aside from the fact that the operating system was identical to my w800 two years previously, everything was just slow and basic.

Not enough to put me off SE for good, but there are so many phones that LOOK good, but have something crucial missing. The promise of this PS3 remote play makes me think other areas will suffer..

Voodoo, you mention being 'thick' and then incorrectly spell the word 'lose' twice.

There are also two occasions in which you refer to the pro-noun and verb combination 'you're' and get that badly wrong too.

That says to me, that these weren't actually spelling mistakes at all, you genuinely didn't know how to spell a four letter word and simple grammatical errors, such as incorrect use of 'your' and 'you're', can harm how others perceive your credibility when they read your posts.

Can you define 'thick' just for me please.

thick = Paradaz

someone needs to recheck your and you're again. Laughing

You're is a contraction of you are. So according to you I should be saying "you are photos".

Is there anything rong with the 4th post in this thread?

It truly is a "Proper" PlayStation phone... Carphone Warehouse had this on it's "Coming Soon" section months ago... it was expected in August 2009 but has been delayed.

Can't get more PlayStation than that.

I did have a look at this for my upgrade but went for one of the Walkman phones instead, the whole "connect to your PS3" thing looked nothing more than a cheap gimmick.
