It's hard to believe it's been three years since the king of online shooters ricocheted its last instalment into the PC gaming arena, but luckily for us Unreal Tournament's absence ends soon, with the arrival of the fantastic-looking Unreal Engine 3 spectacular UT 2007.
PC Zone recently spoke with UT's ever-smiling Jeff Morris to find out why Epic thinks UT2007 will lead this year's shooter bonanza. Here's what he had to say...
So the thinking is that this rendition is going to be the ultimate UT for fans?
Morris: We think so! The fans of Unreal Tournament are a diverse group, whether they're hardcore deathmatch veterans who've played every version of UT, or more recent fans lured by the vehicular carnage of Onslaught. UT2007 pushes what people love about the franchise.
In multiplayer, which weapon is most fun?
Morris: For me, it's all about the Necris Darkwalker's primary fire. There's such a kinetic 'oomph' to it - carving this lethal beam through enemies and vehicles alike...
And for people playing on their tod, how have you tinkered with the bot AI?
Morris: We started with the excellent AI of UT2004 and have been layering on features that make these bots feel like human opponents. A great example of that is they miss like humans now (shooting where you would have been), rather than internally calculating 'miss' and then firing in a random direction.
Can you tell us any more about how the changing terrain affects the new Warfare mode?
Morris: We're still experimenting and tweaking various ideas, so I don't want to go into much detail. Maps controlled by the Necris definitely have their own ecosystem.
Can you assure PC fans that UT2007 won't be dumbed down for console?
Morris: It won't be dumbed down in any way, shape or form. Console players crave the same fast-paced action that UT specialises in.
So for you, what's the single, solitary most exciting thing about the new Unreal Tournament?
Morris: I'd have to say the new vehicles. The Necris vehicle team is just so different from anything else out there, so it's a real rush to take these death-machines to battle.
i think they've got like hoverboards in the console version which is stupid.
I think that's also in the PC version too. If you don't like it, don't use it. It seems to be a fun thing.
But this worries me a bit:
Console players crave the same fast-paced action that UT specialises in.
He did not say anything about making a PC specific version... Say what you will, FPSs are best on the PC. If they won't make it PC specific, it won't be as good as it could be. But they were saying from the beginning that creating the game with the PC in mind. Let's hope, they won't forget this. And release a demo or an alpha version demo or something! Now!
well if they made it for the consoles 1st i think it wont be tht gd prime examples Dreamfall:Longest journey was highly anticipated and it was made on the Xbox 1st then ported 2 Pc and it was crp wit rly rubbish gameplay and graphics hope this wont happen wit UT2007
and as usual, the most important question is left out.... what sort of Ninja PC do I need to play with a decent (50+ for an online FPS) frame rate?
As for the hoverboards, they where introduced to counter the boring treks on large maps...
Maybe in the next article we'll get some real probing questions asked like...
What's your favourite colour...
Who's your favourite pop star
With the dissolution of the Soviet Union, what solution would you propose for the division of the Caspian Sea's Oil and Gas reserves, now that five countries share it's coastline, including Russia and Iran? Particularly as Russia is the only one of those states that has the power of veto in the UNSC. Unless an outside diplomatic solution can be found, we could see Iran and Russia engage in military conflict over the Caspian. What follow on effects would this have in the continued destabalising of the Middle East and Russia's political influence over the West with it's current stranglehold on oil & gas?
The game will work perfectly for the pc, so long as you have a decent current gaming computer. If you're comp's outdated then get a new one. If you don't know anything about computers then buy a ps3. I'm pretty sure epic plans on releasing a ps3 version, maybe even xbox 360 too, and considering their trend of out-doing themselves I'm sure whatever console version they make will be very close to as fun as the pc version. You can get a fast new computer for about $700-$750 not including drives, case, monitor or OS so long as you know what you're doing. Gaming pcs are getting way too expensive these days though.
My processors is 1.5 gig, to replace it im going to have to disconnect my entire pc and replaces the mother board. Everything else is newish. I played the origdinal ut when i was 6 and i still remember the kick ass theme tune.

I agree, the cost of a top graphics card alone could buy me a 360. But then I remember how dissapointed I felt when I played the Xbox port of UT2004. Graphically OK but woeful for accuracy using the controller. I'm sure this will improve for UT2007 on console, but its real home is PC.
