I think it is okay to have that view because both games are very similar in game-play terms. They both offer stealth, fighting and exploration.
However, what Batman AA has that SC doesn't is a massive catalogue of brilliantly designed goons to get up, close and personal with.
And the best thing about Batman? It's out in a couple of weeks! :D Splinter Cell doesn't have fighting, Batman doesn't have guns (Batman never kills, just knocks people out). These games won't play similarly when it comes to combat at all. Plus you can't smash a guys head through a toilet in Batman either! :D Looking like it's going to be something very special indeed, yet another one to watch! I didn't say Batman used guns. :? Also, SC does have hand to hand combat, which in my book is classed as fighting.
Either way, both Batman and Sam use the darkness to great effect.
Similar? Yes.
Personally, I'd rather be up against The Joker and friends, than a group of identikit baddies. »
I never said you did. I'm saying Sam uses guns as his main tools of combat, his hand to hand fighting is limited to one on one interrogation from what we've seen, whereas Batman can take on up to a dozen on screen enemies at once. Big difference.
Comparing enemies probably isn't a good point either, seeing as one world is based in a universe where a humanoid crocodile doesn't raise an eyebrow. To Mark240473: you mustn't be a Splinter Cell fan at all to make such a bias comment. The only thing that is similar to batman is when you go up to the enemy to knock them out or kill them(less of the killing for batman :p). Batman= swing around on gargoyles for the whole game, hit some guys with a batarang, do a glide kick when ever you want that involves no skill what so ever. Identikit enemies in Conviction? The thugs in batman aa can't be more generic and recycled. They all look the damn same. Both games look awesome to me. It's been a long time since I played splinter cell- longer still since I played a good batman/superhero game.
From the demo Batman seemed, and bare with me- an arcadey style of stealth. You can pop down take out a bunch of goons with a few button presses and disappear instantly- which is cool. Splinter Cell is (going by the older games anyway), a more realistic, slower paced stealth game where planning is key.
Comparing them is a bit odd though- it's like comparing GTA4 with spiderman because they're both open world games- play veeeery differently. »»
For that reason alone:
Batman = Win.
SC = Fail. Oh, and seeing as Splinter cell Chaos Theory remains to this day one of the freatest stealth games ever made- i'd say Conviction is in safe hands! :wink: Oh, and seeing as Splinter cell Chaos Theory remains to this day one of the greatest stealth games ever made- i'd say Conviction is in safe hands! :wink: Oh, and seeing as Splinter cell Chaos Theory remains to this day one of the greatest stealth games ever made- i'd say Conviction is in safe hands! :wink: So you're saying that if Splinter Cell featured enemies wearing crazy costumes you'd like it? Yeah, I'd agree with that.
I'll probably pick up both - absolutely loved the Batman demo and I've really enjoyed the Splinter Cell series.
I'm just not sure what changes have been made to SC at the moment - I'm sure it'll be good, but as good as Chaos Theory?
:) No.
They'd have to replace Sam Fisher too. Preferably with Batman. Then I'd buy it.
:D Never been a big Batman fan. Never been a big Splinter Cell fan either, right enough.
What I am interested in when it comes to SC is the fact you need to use your environment and the crowds to hide in. In AA it's all close-quarters, so any hiding places are going to not only be obvious, but mandatory to avoid detection. Whereas the open city feel that they touted for Conviction leaves it wide open for crazy cross-town escapes and different options for avoiding conflict - if they do it right, of course. They're from gameplay footage I've already seen! I want NEW screenshots Ubi!
I had forgotten all about this game prior to E3, but I certainly can't forget it now. Between this and the MGS series I'm set for life for stealth titles (but while I'm at it, Arkham Asylum is more than welcome too :D ). |
