Very wrong. M$ won't allow them to do free DLC, they had the same problem with The Orange Box. They have to charge so M$ can make some money on it (cos they get a cut of all things sold on Live) but at least they're charging the bare minimum to keep M$ happy, which is why it's such an odd price (560 points rather than 600 or a round number like that)
I remember reading some interview with Valve about the problem before How was the original update/DLC free if Microsoft insists on making a profit on all downloads? I don't entirely buy that excuse.
My theory is; as is always the case, console owners are seen as easier profit makers than PC owners. And as such, I will continue to never pay for any downloads. My money is better spent on actual games. One game can give months of entertainment. I can't imagine how much downloadable content you'd have to buy to equal a game. I suspect about twice as much the cost of a new game.
No wonder popular games are about to increase in cost. If people are willing to buy DLC, absolutely, why not ask them to pay more for games. Thank you very much download buyers for putting up the cost of my future games! The PC version is being made far superior for one reason. To get more people on Steam and to buy games there. To be fair though, the PC version does get updated regularly and if the DLC's weren't free, no one would buy them with the development kit now online. After all the shit we've gone through to get this DLC, it'd better be seriously ****ing good.
- Nick After all the shit you've gone through? What shit is that exactly? You mean Valve announcing a brand new game on top of promising to keep updating the old one? Oh I can't imagine how stressful that must have been
Valve have always kept their customers happy, especially on the PC. They update their games regularly with big chunks of DLC and minor updates. We owe them nothing so don't act like you'll just get pissed off with them unless this DLC is the greatest thing to happen since the birth of christ. Yay!!!!!!!!!!! lets all moan. People forget Valve gave us the orange box which is still by far the greatest bargain ever in gaming, not to mention the fact they made Half life in my eyes the greatest FPS ever on par with non other than Deus Ex.
So what if theres a new game out a year after the first one? EA and Konmai have done that every year with sport games and Yuke with the old PS and PS2 wrestling games which btw were sh!te anyway.
The fact is L4D1 is good enough, id be honest i wish there were more maps then again i wish their was world peace and a end put to Daniel O'Donnell and Cliff Richards singing careers in a bizarre Bingo accident at a retirement home but it wont happen. If this new announcement doesn't keep people happy then i dont know what will. Im gunna go ahead and guess that the DLC is priced on the 360 simply because of Microsofts stupid policys regarding dlc.
1. It probably comes with some new achievements that are actually worthwhile putting up on live unlike the survival ones although im guessing those pc exclusive acheivys will come with this pack. You are required to set a charge if the dlc will include achievement otherwise.
2. It states that files above a certain number of mb (is it 8? i forget) must have a charge set. This will obviously be more than 8mb so unfortunatly a charge must be set.
Utter shame really but dont blame Valve for deciding to rip of the console users, blame Microsoft . There are numberous interviews with valve where they discuss why its near impossible to release content like the tf2 class packs and the soon to come left 4 dead dlc on live without having to set a charge. WOOT. I can't wait to play this. If you are serious about this game you should have it on PC anyway for the mods and user content. The 360 version is great but don't complain about paying for add ons on a console. why's that then?..if they released the first DLC for free
please tell me why we should not complain
'if you are serious about this game you should have it on PC anyway'
what a ****ing bellend you are the first content was free because it didn't actually add anything you dullard. No new Maps or weapons, just rejiggered existing content. Therefore it could be given away for free.
The new pack on the other hand gives you a new map, therefore they'll be a charge due to MSs policies reguarded actual added content.
I agree with blublade on this one. If you are serious about this game you'd have the PC version considering it is the far superior one and has a much more active community as well as more regular updates and a thriving modding community which means a hell of a lot more free content.
To the earlier guy that said how much would it cost in dlc to get something that equates to a full game. i'd say 16000 points - The price of the lost and the damned.
The fact games prices might be going up is to do with the strength of the euro vs the pound as most EU games are made on the continent, not people choosing to pay for extra content. Actually the free update Valve gave us last time did infact have a new map on it in the form of the lighthouse. Very neat it was too. Cool! This'll keep me going until L4D2...
Stop complaining 360 owners, you bought the stupid box! If you’re ‘serious’ about this game you probably have some kind of mental issues, and could do with getting out an bit instead of jacking off into your keyboard over anime porn.
Didn’t Criterion release rather large updates for Burnout Paradise for free? Though I can’t remember if there were achievements for those, I’m pretty sure Microsoft won’t allow free DLC to have them. Still, 560 points (same price as Fable II’s last) doesn’t seem that bad for something I’ll probably get hours of enjoyment out of. Yes the PC version is getting it free, but then I don’t have one so I won’t let that bother me! Hey i just like bright coloured hair and big boobs is all. :P Hi I'm fastrez and I'll be serving you this morning, would you like some cheese with your whine?
Can't believe the flak Valve have been getting for L4D2 and this already. Who are we to be so demanding when A YEAR FROM RELEASE we are still getting hours of quality game time from the first title.
The attitude of some gamers never ceases to amaze me... Why should Valve give any of you moany ol' xbox gits anything free after what most of you have been saying about Left 4 Dead 2 GTFO! Of course you'll get ripped off on the console, theyre a money making racket, why would M$ allow it to be free if they can charge for it? they dont care if you buy it or not as someone else will buy it. Not only that buy M$ are hosting the servers to download it and bandwidth isint free. Valve have a different agenda with the PC as they'll continue to add updates to their games to ensure PC owners launch Steam regularly and potentially buy something( although with the euro prices its generally a rip off now anyway ) I thought it was mostly the PC based Steam forum gamers who were the ones moaning about L4D2? I believe that the Survival Pack was free on the 360 because it didnt contain achievements and was released before Microsoft posted its new acheivement policies concerning the 8mb limit. This is why Crash Course will cost as apposed to Survival Pack.
Its like when the Orange Box was released. It came out a few months before Microsoft stated that a game can only have 80 achievements in total. Orange Box has 99 and therefore was an exception. That's a LOT of points. I'd say L&D was the exception in terms of value for money for DLC. For single player DLC at least.
I've said this before, I still think five totally new full length campaigns, new characters, new weapons, mellee weapons, new gameplay modes; If they were all released individually I think you'd easily be up to £30-£40. And yeah, it was the PC owners complaining about L4D2, 99% of 360 owners seemed fine about it. Or resigned to the fact they have to pay for new content, so weren't surprised/disappointed!
I'll be getting this, it would have to be a hell of a lot worse than the existing campaigns for me to not buy it. "Once again showing up the L4D community for jumping the gun,"
Token gesture from Valve really shows them up. 'if you are serious about this game you should have it on PC anyway'
Let me just buy a new laptop to specifically play L4D. I'll see you guys online. sad about paying for the DLC.
but it could have been pricier at 800 so I'm ok with it. If any game I'd gladly pay for extra its L4D, almost a year on and it's still not boring which is more than I can say for a lot of games. listen Xbox retards, stop giving valve shit about it not being free. its not their fault, microsoft make them charge for it. if you must complain, complain to MS. its your own stupid fault for buying a console in the first place when its a well known fact that PCs are better. Willforbes, do everyone a favour and stfu. It's idiots like you, who go about just bitching about consoles without a single thought, that gets PC gamers such a bad rep. Just get back under the bridge. ahh, that one never grows old...oh,wait,yes it does,it grew old in the 20th century when i heard it last It pays to be a retard.... That's why you go PC and get free DLC :)and cheaper games.... and better game play.....and free online.... and much much more :) Valve is lying if they claim that they cannot give away free DLC on the XBOX 360. Look at Burnout Paradise, about half of its DLC has been free. The same goes for Crackdown, Project Gotham Racing 3, Project Gotham Racing 4, Prey, Test Drive Unlimited, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, Guitar Hero III, Guitar Hero: World Tour, and Ridge Racer 6. I'm sure there have been other games as well with free DLC.
Why does Valve lie about it? I dunno. |
