French publisher Ubisoft has moved development of the upcoming adventure game I Am Alive from independent Paris developer Darkworks to internal studio Ubisoft Shanghai.
A statement from Ubisoft on Friday reads, "In order to respect the new launch date for this ambitious title, and Darkworks having other obligations, we have mutually decided to complete development of I Am Alive at Ubisoft Shanghai, as the two studios have collaborated on aspects of the title over the past year."
Ubisoft Shanghai most recently developed Tom Clancy's EndWar, and is also behind games in the Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon series.
I Am Alive is due in Ubisoft's current fiscal year, ending March 2010, and is one of three new brands coming from the company this year.
Ubisoft added, "The team at Darkworks has respected its contractual obligations on the project and will be a part of the success of the game when it launches."
I'm always dubious when things like this happen. It often paints a damning picture for the project to date, or alternative means it loses the focused direction it one had and becomes a jumbled mess.
Here's hoping this isn't the case, as this is one game on my radar...
Hmm, ive always preferred Uni Montreal to shanghai (Montreal made the 2 best SC games 1 + 3). However i do think that Ubi SH could do a good job of this, they are hardly a poor development team.
