That's obvious though. Everybody knows and calls Modern Warfare by Call of Duty not Modern Warfare. It was stupid to not include it in the first place.
It was probably to try and turn Modern Warfare into solo franchise so they could milk it in the future as well as making another Call of Duty game.

Sorry but most of the people think, as it has call of duty in the name, that automatically means it has to have a number with it, yet if you work it out, 2 years ago we had Call of duty 4 : Modern Warfare, that has a number in it, where was 5 in WAW?, and if that is so, where the hell does the 7 come from if a 6 hasnt even been given?

because vice city was the 4th grand theft auto but it wasn't called gta 4. and san andreas was the 5th in the series, was that called gta 5? no
the 6th game in the gta series was called gta 4.
