Yeah, Reach trailer is definitely best of these in my opinion. Ga Bungie!!! Even though it shows absolutely nothing in regards to what the game will look like? I'm 100% behind CVG with this one, these teaser trailers are getting out of hand, bloody developers, teasing little bitches. :D I hate teasers but they obviously work. Ive itched for an F1 game on 360 for ages and I automatically think that it's gonna be class due to the trailer which gives nothing away (gameplay wise) at all. My understanding of teaser trailers is just that... to tease. I try not to watch these kind of trailers purely for the fact I know that are going to show F all in thwe way of gameplay. Crysis 2 was pretty shite I've got no problem with teaser trailers themselves, the big problem is that they don't draw the line at a teaser trailer.
These days we are getting a teaser of an announcement that a countdown is beginning for something, which turns out to be the announcement of a date that something else will be getting revealed - and it's this that turns out to be the teaser trailer (if we are lucky...)
I just don't pay attention to them all anymore, I'll watch the teaser/trailer when I see it appear, but I don't bother about anything else now, it's just too much hassle! Articles like this make me laugh! It's like the media has nothing at all to do with it! Is there absolutely no editorial content any more? Doers the media just act a mouthpiece, a torrent as it were, with no decision-making inbetween?
Instead of pointing the finger at these 'advertisements' and then RUNNING THEM AGAIN, they should have specifically NOT run them again and complained about them. They also can, quite simply, take a stand on behalf of gamers and not show these adverts on behalf of games companies!
For god's sake CVG - get a backbone! Take on these publishers!
I am fed up with the 'how can publishers/developer's get away with this' type articles that assume the media can do nothing about the situation. Well, they CHOOSE to do nothing. Don't blame the publisher's\Developer's for taking more and more outrageous actions, it's because of the supine media we have in gaming that just licks the boots of these very publishers and then wonder why they act so arrogant! If I were a cynic, I'd say something about the fact that there's a video on almost every post now, with lots of tenuous links to videos that have already been posted. Is CVG making decent ad revenue from videos do you think? Aside from the Halo References (Spartans etc), That Halo Reach trailer really did feel as a CG Movie Trailer. Quite nice, though I dont like halo unfortunately. About a decade ago the media, as one it would seem, decided that looking after the industry was going to be more profitable than carrying on supporting the gamers. They have, like us gamers been kicked in the head by the very said industry, from shallow gaming to console centric thinking to sub 10 hour gameplay Ł40 games to these so-called trailers to DRM and on and on. But the gaming media is trapped on it's own petard, hence why they still give crappy games from big companies 90%+
Advertising revenue is sinking and yet games companies still expect glowing reviews and get signed contracts stating how their games can be reviewed, etc.
If it wasn't so sad for us PC gamers i'd laugh at gaming media's problems they have created for themselves, but I find articles like this so entertainingly funny to read that let them carry on looking after the beast that bites it's hand! Even if the money isn't coming in as much nowadays! mw2 teaser isnt that bad. its the best one out of them all. Oh come on the film industry has been doing this for years. I really like the brink and Halo: reach ones. You don't see any gameplay footage becasue its a teaser. they are there as the name suggests. To tease. Their job is inform the world of its existance and make people wonder what its going to be like. not give away everything. Thats what full trailers are for. I would be inclined to agree with you, but considering anyone has the means to find out the story of Reach already, it doesn't need to reveal much information. |
