Pics: PSP Go vs. PSP 3000

Which is better? There's only one way to find out...
Ever wondered how obsolete and un-shiny a 'fat' PSP looks when placed next to a lovely PSP Go? Well thanks to the chaps at GameWatch Japan, we now have the head-to-head comparison pics you've been looking for. See them below.

The redesigned handheld sports new sliding controls, 16GB built-in flash memory, Bluetooth support and the removal of the UMD drive. It's also got a slightly smaller screen than the PSP 3000, as you can see.

FIIIIGGGGHHHTTTT!!

:( Sorry, It had to be done. Harry Hill FTW

I don't like the new Go! I would get the 3000...but I'm stuck with the 2000 :D

That dude from OPM seriously looks like a coconut. And by the same measure, looks like the deranged bloke off Cube.

The go is interesting but its a complete insult to consumers and gamers everywhere. A prime example of Sony ripping off its consumers and fans. THE go is cheaper to make than the PSP 3000 and yet costs a good deal more. SCAM is the perfect description for it.

You're totally correct! There was something about him that didn't look right, I couldn't put my finger on it but after reading your comment, yes,... he looks like a coconut. Perhaps it's the hair?

Am I missing something with the GO? Its nice and portable, you can download games so no need to carry around stupid UMD's and its 250 Euros.

Everything there says portable except the price. I use my PSP fat in work, I lend it to mates and I take it on holidays. It gets knocked around but only cost me Ł80 so I don't really care. If I paid 250 fecking Euros for it it wouldn't leave my flat.

If anyone has any interest in buying one of these please explain why. Do you earn alot of money? are your parents loaded? Do you just love the latest tech (I do)? I wouldn't spend that much if it had of been a PSP2 with 3 times the power. Portable games machines need to stay below the Ł150 mark or they are just pointless IMO

I agree that anything above Ł180.00 is too expensive for the PSP-GO. However, Sony are in the game to make money, so I would understand their mentality in milking us for all we're worth.

Nobody complains when MS charges us extortionate prices for accessories - instead they say it is business.

Funny how attitudes change like the wind on this site.

Yes but accessories are optional, im not defending microsoft but still its not the same principle. If ms released a new 360 without a disk-tray and download only games and slapped a Ł300 price tag on it id be angry and certainly wouldnt buy it.

I've been trying to decide whether to get a PSP-3000 or wait for the Go. I already have a PSP-1000 but it's in dire need of replacement.

I really like the new design of the Go, but... smaller screen, no UMD drive, more expensive... I may just go for a 3000. Going to America in a week or so, so I may get one there on the cheap.

But think how quiet it would be!!!

And everyone complains about the price of MS peripherals - same as the PSP GO, you should be aware of the costs before you buy one.

The only things that don't change on this site are some peoples' blind loyalties to faceless brands.

Buying a PSP GO is optional. You can be angry and not buy it as much as you want.

Look at it this way: Millions of people go out and spend Ł300 on the new iphone. What does it offer that the PSP GO doesn't? A phone. How much can you buy a mobile phone for nowadays? Ł10.00.

Point made, I think. It just proves that people are willing to spend silly money on stuff just because it is seen as cool.

The rules should be no different for Sony, or any other company for that matter.

im waiting for the new microsoft handheld. it looks awesome.

Would it be cheaper to buy a 3000 series with a 16GB memory card? That way you have all the DLC AND the UMD drive. Hell, you could even buy a 32GB one and outdo the GO!.
Posted by lordirongut
Just checked- A PSP 3000 is Ł140 on play.com and it comes with Fifa 09. A 16GB memory stick is available on ebay for about Ł45. Assuming the GO! is Ł180, then UMD capability will only cost Ł5 more. I would certainly pay that Ł5 for all those UMD games out there!

If it had a 2nd analogue stick, touch screen and tilt sensors/controls I'd be sold on it, but as it is, I'm gonna give it a wide berth. :|

The Iphone is a lot more than just a bog standard phone though because of all the apps for it some maybe pointless but they offer loads of different features for you to choose from (and no I do not have one)

Facts are that there will be a lot of people who are not educated as to the price it costs sony to make it & will buy the GO simply to have the latest shiny gadget except its not really a new gadget is it its a 3yr old portable redesigned made cheaper than the current model & yet looking likely it will be sold at Ł70 more than the current version when the only extra it has is bluetooth which your mobile phone more than likely has already.

MS do charge high agreed but they are add ons they are not forced on you, you want wireless buy the add on if not use a cable simple.

As far as a redesign of a 3yr old system sony are just out right taking the piss out of the consumer that said they are still charging more than they should for ps2 & look at how long thats been around.

Aye but guys does it matter how much of a profit they make on it? The biggest question is would YOU spend that kinda money on a handheld system? Im talking about any handheld system (Pandora excluded).
I wouldnt but then maybe im a tightass
Posted by cjw101
I still maintain that it looks like an awkward son of a bitch to actually play games on. Just don't see how you could hold it comfortably and use the analogue nub for any length of time. A triumph of form over function if you ask me.

i realy dont see the point in the psp go.
its more expensive.
it has a smaller screen.
you have to download all the games using up your download usage and wasting time, spend 2 hours say downloading a game when i can go to the store and back in 5 minutes.
and in future when you go over the 32GB it can hold you have to start deleting games, than if you want to play it again download it again another 2 hours wasted.
i just realy dont see the point if im going to spend more on something it has to offer me something the other cant.
and rely theres no advantages of the psp go besides its size and so freaking what?
i can get a used psp 3000 with 1 year warranty for 200AUD.
by the looks of it the psp go is going to be over 400 AUD, so what am i paying a extra 200 for the size?
this things going to flop.

I can't believe they're planning on selling it here for Ł250! That's Ł100 more than in the States. (you could almost get a PS3 for that price  )
