Yankees 7 Oakland 1: If you believe in omens, New York started the second half on a great note. After struggling all season long to get clutch hits, the Yankees got a bunch of them Friday as they easily beat the A’s. It was the newest Yankee, Richie Sexson, who got the Yankees on the board with a RBI-single in the first. New York then blew open the game with a huge home run from......

Less than a month ago, the Giants announced they were going to generate revenue by issuing personal seat licenses to season ticket holders. Yesterday, they released the specifics of the plan that will charge $1,000-20,000 per seat. The monies collected will go towards paying debt on the new stadium. And the Giants aren't just selling PSLs, but they're also jacking up the price of the actual ticket too - the most expensive tickets will be......

George Steinbrenner enters Yankee Stadium and is greeted by Reggie Jackson and Yogi Berra Before the start of the 79th Major League Baseball All-Star Game at Yankee Stadium, there was one surprise in a heavily scripted pre-game celebration. Yankees principal owner George Steinbrenner made an appearance on the field, handing out the balls for the ceremonial first pitch. The Boss made his way from the outfield via golf cart and handed balls to Reggie......

In case you didn't know, tonight is the Major League Baseball All-Star Game...AND it's the last one being played at Yankee Stadium (well, this Yankee Stadium--we're sure there will be an All-Star game at the new one soon enough). Today, the MLB held an All-Star Game Red Carpet Parade, to create even more buzz, photo ops, and a chance for fans to see legends and legends-in-the-making alike. The parade will be broadcast on Fox at,......

Mets 7, Rockies 0: Break up the Mets!. Mike Pelfrey dominated, each half of brothers Carlos went deep and the Mets won their ninth straight game. This game did snap the Mets' Major League record streak of five straight games allowing three hits or fewer. The Mets will take it. They enter the All-Star break as hot as they've been in two years. Their four shutouts in the last six games is the best such......

Photograph of Bobby Murcer after hitting a game-winning hit in the Yankees' win over Baltimore Orioles on Aug. 6, 1979 from the AP Yankees’ fans knew Bobby Murcer differently depending on their age. For those who were around in 1965, Murcer represented the next great Yankee, taking the torch from Mickey Mantle. Fans of the next generation will never forget August 6th, 1979, when Murcer gave a moving eulogy for his friend, Thurman Munson,......

Make it eight-straight after Saturday’s victory and even Pedro’s early exit couldn’t dampen the mood at Shea. The Rockies only managed one hit against four Mets’ pitchers and every regular in the lineup got a hit. Pedro is going to be ok, it sounds as if Jerry Manuel was just......

Mets 2, Rockies 1: Wins against National League West teams still count in the standings. Remember, the Mets couldn't compete with the Seattle Mariners a few weeks ago. Now they are owners of their first seven-game win streak since 2006. Oliver Perez wasn't as sharp as he has been in recent starts, but he did produce six innings of one-run ball. He was fortunate to allow so few, as he walked six. Damion Easley hit......

Missing out on the Final Vote yesterday to Corey Hart on the Brewers, Wright was named as a reserve today Major League Baseball, taking the spot vacated by injured Cubs outfielder Alfonso Soriano. New York pitching finally allowed the Giants to score, but the bats made up for it. Fernando Tatis put on a hitting show, providing two big hits in the game. With the Mets leading 1-0, Tatis hit a two-run double in the third. In the seventh, with the game tied at 3, Tatis hit a two-run homer to left that put the Mets back in front. ...

Despite our shameless last-minute plug for David Wright and Jason Giambi, neither of them made the 2008 All-Star Team in their respective league. And, in history-making news, Alex Rodriguez tied Mickey Mantle on the all-time home run list (they both have 536 home runs) with a solo shot. Yankees 2, Red Sox 1: Classic games between these teams usually take four hours -- or four hours, 45 minutes -- not 2:58. The Yankees will take this. Mike Mussina spun six scoreless innings before Mariano Rivera wriggled off the hook in the ninth inning. The win came on the heels of two straight losses to open this four-game set. If the first free agent move the Knicks made this off season is any indication, Stephon Marbury is on the way out of his hometown. The Knicks verbally agreed to a two-year deal with the former Chicago Bulls point guard Chris Duhon. While the deal cannot officially be announced until Wednesday when free agent contracts can first be signed, it's expected that Duhon will get the full mid-level exception of an estimated $5.8 million/year. One short day after the Rangers parted ways with Jaromir Jagr, the 36-year-old wing signed a two-year deal with a Russian team. Red Sox 6, Yankees 4: If Johnny Damon had caught the ball, things might have turned out differently. With the Yankees leading, 3-1, and two Red Sox on base, Kevin Youkilis lifted a high drive to left field, and Damon appeared to have it in his glove. Then gravity kicked in, Damon returned to Earth, and, after literally hanging on top of the wall, the ball fell to the warning track. That proved to be the turning point. ...

Back in 1997, the Rangers lost their captain when Mark Messier headed to the Pacific Northwest to play for the Canucks. On Thursday, they brought Vancouver's captain, Markus Naslund to New York with a two-year, $8 million deal. Thanks to the salary cap and other roster considerations, this move means Jaromir Jagr's New York career is over. Rangers general manager Glen Sather sounded like he had gotten tired of waiting for Jagr to decide what......

If Derek Jeter hadn't made an error that led to two unearned runs being scored in the top of the first, the Yankees still would have lost. That's because the bats, which looked so lively against the Rangers on Wednesday, did nothing against Boston's Jon Lester on Thursday. Jeter's error, the latest downplayed miscue from an aging "shortstop," didn't cost the team the game. Even if he hadn't thrown a ball that should have completed a double play into first-basethe camera well, Andy Pettitte still wouldn't have had his best stuff. This is the first time the teams played after Memorial Day without one of them being in first place since September 2007. The Yanks will need to win two of the next three to avoid falling further behind Boston -- and first-place Tampa Bay....

Sidney Ponson, who will soon be forgotten himself, made a start that will be forgotten. That's thanks in part to his ineffectiveness but mostly to the Yanks' offensive explosion spearheaded by Jason Giambi (grand slam, six RBIs) and Alex Rodriguez (homer, three RBIs, four runs scored). Every Yankees starter had a hit. That includes Brett Gardner, who could be the new center fielder if Melky Cabrera continues his sour play. Ponson, picked up as a stopgap measure, was barely decent -- but fully clothed -- until the sixth inning, when he allowed a pair of two-run home runs. But then the Yankees exploded for a nine-run seventh. ...
