Q3. Can you tell me sales figures for a particular record?

Q4. Where can I see a full archive of Top 40s / for a particular date?

ANSWERS

Q1. What was Number One on my birthday?

A. On this website, in the 'Chartfinder' section on the right-hand navigation bar, there is a section called "All The No.1 Singles". To determine which track was #1 on your birthday, you should consider it to be the first chart with a 'week-ending' date after your actual birth date. Watch out for the songs that stayed at #1 for more than one week!

Alternatively, if you go back to the main home page and look in the bottom left-hand corner, our good friends at British Hit Singles & Albums have created a calculator. Simply follow the instructions.

Q2. Where can I see the midweek chart?

A. Midweek chart information is exclusively for the music industry to track how their sales are going that particular week.
This Midweek information is available, under an embargo notice, to music industry online subscribers from Tuesday through to Friday from 10.30am.
There is no official release or industry authorisation to release Midweek information to the general public or the media.
All official chart information is copyright protected. Anyone distributing this copyright data without permission from The Official UK Charts Company will be asked to cease and desist and further action may be taken if this instruction is not adhered to.

Q3. Can you tell me sales figures for a particular record?

A. Due to a confidentiality agreement with the record companies, The Official UK Charts Company is unable to supply sensitive sales information to members of the public - even for academic study.

For reference, however, we have included some first week sales figures of each Number One of recent years - just click on the song title in the "All The No. 1s" section

The BPI (British Phonographic Industry) has been collating information about the UK recorded music industry since its inception in 1973. Their 'BPI Statistical Handbook' is a good resource for students, researchers and journalists to establish overall market figures. To order a copy, please call T: 020 7803 1300 or visit www.bpi.co.uk

Q4. Where can I see a full archive of Top 40s / for a particular date?

A. Unfortunately this information is not readily available to the general public - either online or in print form. The Top 40 Weekly Charts book was last published by Guinness in 1996 but there are currently no plans to update this book.

The Official UK Charts Company - with just 8 staff - is not set up to provide chart information to individual members of the public. However, if you send an email and can wait a short while, we may well be able to fulfil your request for a small fee.
