And now it’s the Islanders turn to head out to Western Canada and based on Monday’s 4-0 thrashing, they may have the same problems the Rangers did. Early in the second, Ales Hemsky skated in on two defenders and through a harmless shot towards the net, that Rick DiPietro somehow let in and the rout was on. The Oliers added two more goals in the second and another one in the third to complete the......

Vancouver 3 Rangers 0: They kept trying and trying, but they simply could not break through. Roberto Luongo made big save after big save as he withstood 27 Rangers' shots to record the shutout. Ryan Kessler scored the first goal of the contest in the second period off of a tough angle that Stephon Valiquette couldn’t handle. Fedor Tyutin got caught on a pinch late in the third period that the Canuks turned into a......

Rangers 4 Pittsburgh 0: When things aren’t going well, hockey coaches look to shake up their lines. That what Tom Renney did Tuesday, installing Gomez on the Jagr-Straka line and the results were very good. The top line looked like one, scoring twice at even strength and propelling New York to the victory. But, it wasn’t just the top guys. Chris Drury had added two points and the defense held Pittsburgh to 18 shots. Henrik......

The DC Comic Watchmen is coming to the big screen, and the NYC sets were recently revealed! Mark Messier will forever be remembered for delivering the Stanley Cup to the Rangers in 1994, his famous guarantee before Game Six of the Eastern Conference Finals that year and a tendency to cry in public. The captain had his number retired by both Edmonton and New York and is the only player ever to captain two teams to a Stanley Cup victory and he was second all-time in points scored in NHL history. Scott......

Our friends from the Great White North are feeling flush from the strengthening of the Canadian dollar versus its US counterpart, and New York is apparently ready to relieve them of their excess cash. The Loonie, or Canadian dollar, is even with the US dollar for the first time since 1976. If you've ever wondered why the backs of paperback books usually have a second, more expensive, price printed on them them for Canadians,......

The 2007 class for the Hockey Hall of Fame was announced yesterday, and Mark Messier and Scott Stevens were both on the list. Messier, the former Rangers captain, and 2nd on the NHL's all-time point list behind Wayne Gretzky, helped the Rangers end their 54-year Stanley Cup drought in 1994. In addition to winning the Cup with the Rangers, Messier won five championships with the Edmonton Oilers. Stevens helped lead the Devils to three Stanley......

The building was rocking to the chants of “MVP” and Rangers’ fans were being treated to a dominant performance from a player for the first time since Mark Messier left for Vancouver. It was a night when Jaromir Jagr looked unstoppable and the idea that the Rangers would lose seemed impossible. All it took to remind the crowd of 18,200 that hockey is a team sport was a stupid penalty by Ryan Hollweg. After Jagr......

The Rangers have hit their first rough patch of the season. After coming home from a successful road trip, they dropped one-goal games to Vancouver and Colorado before losing to New Jersey 3-1 last night. The loss leaves the Rangers with a one point lead over second place Philadelphia. Things started off well for the Rangers as Steve Ruchin scored on a great assist by Petr Prucha and the Rangers took a 1-0 lead deep......

The Rangers had an opportunity to gage themselves against a first place team Tuesday night and they showed they still have some work to do if they want to make an impact in the playoffs. Vancouver out hustled the Rangers in the first half of the game and then held on in the second half to earn a 3-2 win. Petr Prucha continued his torrid scoring pace netting both of the Rangers goals. Prucha’s development......

Hollywood has repeatedly opted to film blatantly New York movies in other locales and specifically Canada (such as Rent, Rudy: The Rudy Giuliani Story, Jackie Chan's Rumble in the Bronx etc), and now they've even relocated our city's great Museum of Natural History. According to the Vancouver Sun, Ben Stiller is set to star in Stephen Sommers' A Night at the Museum, a family comedy, loosely based on the children's book by Milan Trenc,......

If you're wondering who's going to star in the next Superman movie, you're not alone. Then again, it's entirely possible you didn't know or don't care. Superman, who? The casting for the lead role in the movie has gone down the crapper. The list of leading men has run the gammut, from Nick Cage, to Jason Behr, to Henry Cavill. These space-savers are grown in Japan, and were even featured in an episode of The Simpsons. The BBC describes how they are made: To make it happen, farmers grew the melons in glass boxes and the fruit then naturally assumed the same shape. Travel & Leisure readers have voted New York the country's #1 city/destination for the fourth straight year. This confirms everything we knew about New York, as well as explains the teeming number of tourists we see on the weekend. Other cities in the top ten (which includes Canadian cities) are San Francisco, Quebec City, Charleston, SC, Santa Fe, Vancouver, Chicago, New Orleans, Victoria, B.C., and Montreal. The Trump International Hotel & Tower is the city's......

The International Olympic Comitee pared down the locations contending for the 2012 Olympic Games today, choosing five cities to remain in the competition. The cities chosen were New York City, Paris, London, Madrid, and Moscow. Istanbul, Leipzig, Rio de Janeiro and Havana did not make the list of finalists. This, of course, has Gothamist bummed because we were really hoping to travel to Cuba and smoke some fine cigars. There were reports that as......

Canada will be hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics, with the beautfiul western city of Vancouver beating Pyeongchang, Korea, and Salzburg, Austria. Canada's good news may mean that New York's chances of hosting the 2012 Summer Olympics are decreased, since the IOC probably wants to spread the wealth around the world. Gothamist would love for the city to benefit from the revenue and goodwill of the Olympics, but the idea of having the Olympics in New......
