God Sent Forth His Son

When the fullness of time was come, God sent forth His Son, made of a woman.
       (Galatians 4:4 KJV)

Have you ever fully realized that God took almost four thousand years in which to prepare us for that moment in history when Jesus should be born in Bethlehem? Through prophecies and promises, God directed His people to be ready for the coming of Christ. No wonder then, when the fullness of the time had come, the angel shouted the glad tidings: To you is born a Savior!

How did God send His Son? He was made of a woman. The miracle by which He became a human being is beyond all understanding, but this does not change the truth that the Son of God became man. Here is the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy: "A virgin shall conceive, and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel" (Isaiah 7:14 KJV). Here is the fulfillment of the angel Gabriel’s words to Mary: "The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that Holy Thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God" (Luke 1:35 KJV).

Although we cannot understand the virgin birth of Christ, we can by grace believe it. God has spoken: "God sent forth His Son, made of a woman." We can trust that Word.

Lord Jesus, we believe that You are the promised Savior, born of a virgin and sent to save the lost. Amen.
