Tampa Bay 2 Yankees 1 (11th): Even the best don’t get it done on some night, Tuesday was Mariano Rivera’s turn. Rivera pitched a scoreless tenth, but he couldn’t get out of the eleventh and the Yankees lost for the second-consecutive night. But, the blame shouldn’t go on the pitching staff, they only allowed two runs over eleven innings, it was the hitting that was awful. The Yankees managed to only get six hits and......

Rays 7, Yankees 1: The days of dominating the Rays are over, or at least on hiatus. Matt Garza shut down the inconsistent Yankees lineup in the first game of a four-game series. Andy Pettitte allowed five runs in four innings. Four of those came in the third. For the rest of his outing, the veteran lefty looked OK. He struck out five and walked two, so his peripheral stats suggest he deserved better. The......

Tigers 6, Yankees 5: It's official. Kei Igawa still stinks. He lasted three innings but somehow managed to give up 11 hits and six runs. He didn't walk or strike out a batter, meaning he left everything in the hands of his defense. With Derek Jeter and Wilson Betemit manning the left side of the infield, that's not a good idea. Jeter made an error that was later changed to a hit and Betemit showed......

They would have been 3-6 (with the six losses coming in two sweeps) on a nine-game homestand......

Mets 12 Los Angeles 1: The Mets ended their trip out West with a laugher. John Maine almost went the distance before tiring in the ninth, but he allowed only four hits and one run during the game. Maine also helped himself with the bat, driving in two runs and New York pounded out 13 hits overall. Every starter except for Jose Reyes had at least a hit and Ryan Church had a 3-for-4 game......

Photograph of Joba Chamberlain after giving up a three-run homer run in the eighth inning at Yankee Stadium by Julie Jacobson/AP Cleveland 5 Yankees 3: Could the definition of irony be that Joba Chamberlain gives up three runs in the majors on the same night that Ian Kennedy dominates AAA? Perhaps, but maybe we should just focus on how tough it is to protect a one-run lead. Joba couldn’t do it in the 8th,......

Dodgers 5, Mets 1: He performed better than he did against Pittsburgh in his last start, but Oliver Perez was still underwhelming in the Mets' loss in Chavez Ravine. Four days after walking five and retiring five batters in 1 2/3 innings, the lefty allowed three home runs -- no easy task at pitcher-friendly Dodger Stadium -- in the series opener. He only walked two and didn't seem to be affected by a Jeff Kent......

Puskar/AP Pittsburgh 3 Rangers 2 OT: In the end it was another weird bounce that brought a close to the Rangers’ season. Rangers net go-ahead goal, by Ray Haddad at flickrRangers 3 Pittsburgh 0: If New York pulls off the impossible, coming back from a 3-0 deficit, the turning point will be a Henrik Lundqvist save in the second period when Pittsburgh had a penalty shot. Lundqvist’s save was only part of his great night as he made huge saves every time the Rangers needed one. Jarmoir Jagr played like this might have been his last......

Pirates 13, Mets 1: Oliver Perez didn't get help from his defense, but he didn't help himself. The inconsistent lefty was hurt by a Luis Castillo error and Jose Reyes' failure to cover second base in a rundown in the second, but he was probably hurt more by issuing as many walks -- five -- as he got outs. Perez allowed seven runs in 1 2/3 innings as his Mets split a rain-shortened two-game series......

Photograph of the Rangers and Penguins in a first period fight (three roughing penalties were charged to each team) at Madison Square Garden by Julie Jacobson/AP Pittsburgh 5 Rangers 3: Ryan Hollweg has a fantastic moustache, but his idiotic penalty probably cost the Rangers their season. Yankees 5 Indians 2: Maybe it was the cold temperatures, but the Yankees couldn’t do anything for the first five innings. They were no-hit through five, but the sixth proved to be the difference. Melky Cabrera and Derek Jeter reached on infield singles and after Bobby Abreu singled the Yankees had the bases loaded and no outs. A-Rod was hit by a pitch, driving in a run and Jason Giambi drove in a run with......

Mets 4 Braves 3: It was a big third inning that propelled the Mets past the Braves on Saturday. Down 2-0 entering the frame, Endy Chavez and David Wright singled with one out to get things going. Carlos Beltran doubled to bring them both home and tie the game with Ryan Church adding a triple for the go-ahead run. John Maine clamped down from there, striking out seven and the bullpen brought the game home.......

America's favorite past time is also apparently when fans like to drink and go crazy! Last night, there a Mets fan was arrested and other were removed from Shea Stadium when a series of fights occurred in the stands. According to 1010 WINS, "fights and food-and-beverage-throwing altercations cropped up on two decks on the third-base side"--which happened right after the Braves took the lead! Just last week, some Mets fans were arrested during a Phillies......

Washington 10 Mets 5: It seemed like it would be a good night for the Mets. Halfway through the game, the Mets had a 3-0 lead and Oliver Perez was cruising. Unfortunately, they play nine innings in baseball and the Nationals took advantage of the latter ones. Perez gave up three runs in the fifth, but he turned a first and second no-out jam into a first and second two-out situation in the sixth before......

Mets 7, Nationals 2: Any time a pitcher has more extra-base hits than he allows, things must be going well. Johan Santana cracked two doubles and allowed only one -- ironically it was hit by Nationals starter Tim Redding -- as he and the Mets snapped the team's three-game losing streak. The Nationals have proved a nice cure for the Mets this season; New York is 4-0 against the ex-Expos. Ryan Church, moved up to......

Cubs 7, Mets 1: After losing to the Phillies on Sunday and getting in to Chicago at 3:30 a.m. local time Monday, the Mets had to get ready for a game at 6:05. They looked like they could have used more rest. John Maine labored but got through six innings of two-run ball. But he got little if any help from his defense and bats. Yankees 7, Orioles 1: Sunday would have been bleak indeed if the Yankees hadn't gotten to Steve Trachsel. They weren't dancing on their flight to Chicago however; Alex Rodriguez strained his quadriceps and is "day-to-day," which probably means he is missing a few games. Andy Pettitte took a perfect game into the fifth inning and looked fine in his seven innings of work. Even a previously dormant Johnny Damon went deep to help his team......

Mets 4 Phillies 2: The Mets pulled out the win thanks to a home run by Jose Reyes and some nifty relief work from Aaron Heilman. Billy Wagner took things from there with a perfect ninth. David Wright had 2 RBI’s and 2 hits in......

Rangers 5 Devils 3: There is justice in the hockey world. One game after inadvertently deflecting the winning goal for the Devils off of his skate, Marc Staal scored the winning goal for the Rangers. Yankees 8, Rays 7: Three home runs helped give the Yankees a six-run cushion, but the fourth gave them the final margin of victory. Devils 4 Rangers 3 (OT) : Sometimes the puck just bounces the right way for you and that is exactly what happened for the Devils Sunday. The three-day quasi-nightmare for-superstitious Yankees fans is over: The Red Sox jersey buried in cement by a Yankee-hating construction worker along the third base line at the new Yankee Stadium has been found and will be removed today in an "extraction ceremony." At first, the thought of Red Sox jersey buried in the new stadium seemed like a joke, but yesterday the NY Post published photographs worker Gino Castignoli claimed he took while after......

The Bronx-born Yankee-hating and Red Sox-loving construction worker who buried a Red Sox jersey in the new Yankee Stadium has given photographic evidence to the Post proving it's no tall tale. "Gino" explained, "As I stuck it in, I said, 'The Yankees are done for the next 30 years.' I only put a 30-year curse because I'm 46 and in 30 years I'll be dead, and I won't care if the Yankees win then."......
