Patients at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center are discovering a hidden cost of healthcare: the theft of their identities at the hands of a hospital employee. During a federal investigation, it was revealed that as many as 40,000 patients over the last five to six years had their names, phone numbers, and social security numbers stolen from hopsital records. An audit at the hospital confirmed that the information had been misappropriated. While no specific......

Federal prosecutors have asked the NY State Inspector General to "refrain from launching" its own investigation into former Governor Spitzer activities (the Post translates it as "a double-life as a sleazy harlot-hopper"). Why? Because the feds says they are "looking at all aspects." Well, why not, when it seems that the feds used "some of its most intrusive tactics" against Spitzer during the investigation. The NY Times has an article about the Justice Department's aggressive......

New York magazine hit the stands today (or, really, yesterday) with a bunch of features about our embattled ex-governors, from looks inside the world of prostitution, the Silda angle, and the irony of Governor Spitzer's fall. Best of all is the cheeky cover, which uses the image at right. Most disturbing quote: Call girl "Kristen" allegedly has what other call girls called "the most beautiful vagina in New York." Over the weekend, it was revealed......

Even while targeted in the Troopergate scandal, State Senate leader Joseph Bruno was living in high style. The New York Sun is reporting that Bruno enjoyed a 3,500 square foot, two-story penthouse suite at the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers, just weeks before the legislature selected the hotel chain to construct a luxury hotel in Albany. On November 30, the nine-member board of the Albany Convention Center Authority, which includes a member appointed by Mr.......

Two hit and run drivers were arrested late this week; one through the actions of a horrified but brave bystander and the other through a successful effort by the Brooklyn Accident Investigation squad. Two sidewalk Christmas tree salesman are accusing the "company" they worked for last year of leaving them out in the cold on Christmas Eve, waiting for thousands of dollars in wages that never appeared. The yuletide stiffing apparently was in retribution for either 1) skimming sales revenue, or 2) talking publicly about the shadowy figure who allegedly is the kingpin of sidewalk Christmas trees. Last year, an experienced tree-seller and longtime employee of Kevin......

While Governor Spitzer has been trying to get back to business, the Senate Investigations Committee and Albany County DA's office have been busy deciding what to do with Spitzer's from communications director Darren Dopp. Dopp resigned after he at least co-devised a plan to smear Spitzer's rival Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno over the summer. The NY Times reports the Albany County DA's office is not going to charge Dopp with perjury - yet. Dopp's......
