Recently at one of our sister sites, LAist's Julie Wolfson spent an afternoon with Cloverfield director Matt Reeves. In the interview that follows he spills some juicy details about the film, including what the title really means, which will be in theaters this Friday. Over the years you have been very selective in your choice of projects. What made you want to direct your first monster movie? Well, I guess it had to do......

On Friday Gothamist visited the set of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Undead, a bizarre little indie shooting in the East Village. The movie is a sequel of sorts to Tom Stoppard’s hilarious existential comedy Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, but with “sexy vampires, the Holy Grail and Hamlet.” Jake Hoffman (son of Dustin), who appeared on some Arrested Development episodes, is a broke, frustrated ladies man who jumps at the chance to direct an......

Manhattan Film Forum Following the overwhelming success of the Woody Allen series at Film Forum last winter, they've brought back the new 35mm print of the Woodman's classic ode to our great city for a one week run. Sitting back in the air conditioned dark, feeling the George Gershwin soundtrack and the stunning black and white photography wash over you, you'll fall for this metropolis and this movie all over again. As Allen's character Isaac......

Tonight's episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent features its ripped-from-the-headlinse take on the Anna Nicole Smith soap opera. Playing a blond bombshell named Lorelei Mailer is Kristy Swanson, best known as the movie Buffy the Vampire Slayer; playing her manager/boyfriend is David Cross (!). TV Guide interviewed Swanson:TV Guide: How did this Criminal Intent job come about? Swanson: Law & Order called my agent and said that they're doing the Anna Nicole Smith story.......

Once a month, fans of Buffy the Vampire Slayer flock to the IFC Center for the chance to sing along to the musical episode, Once More With Feeling. While we thought we liked the show, clearly, these fans are in other league all together. Videographer Kelly Loudenberg was on the scene this past weekend for the festivities. Here's more information about the Buffy Sing-A-Long. The next ones are April 20 and 21. The Buffy-Sing-A-Long......

There's a Page Six today about Rachael Ray being attacked by a dog. Apparently an unleashed dog in Union Square Park (we will guess it was at the dog run) was very aggressive and caused quite a bit of havoc. Ray's rep told the Post, "Rachael and some others shooed it away, but it came back and attacked Isaboo [Ray's pitbull mix]. Other dogs were involved, and Rachael jumped in and was bit by one......

With the vice president shooting people in the face and everyone still getting over their chocolate hang over from Valentine's Day, this week it's hard not to feel a general malaise and slight discomfort about the new releases line up. However as always, New York's repertory film scene comes through in the clinch keeping Gothamist inspired when it comes to movie viewing. The bad news first, ie new wide releases out this week: Our former......

Gothamist loved the hot, steamy, PG-13 lesbian kiss on tonight's OC. However, we must note that the lesbian kissing on Buffy the Vampire Slayer was much hotter and more realistic.......

The Port Authority has agreed to a three-year lease extension for American Stevedoring in Red Hook. The port is the only working port in Brooklyn; the PA is still considering putting a cruise terminal in the southern part of Red Hook. The Post writes this "will hold off on swapping cargo ships for condos" for the moment, but Gothamist is unsure if the area that American Stevedoring, the port service and transportation provider, occupies is......

Tonight is one of the final episodes of Angel, the much beloved Buffy the Vampire Slayer spinoff. These days, when not getting sucked into some other demon hole or something, Angel has been beat up by The O.C. or The West Wing in the ratings. Variety TV editor Michael Schneider has been getting lots of "Save Angel" mail from the dedicated Angels fans (photo, above):They came from all over the globe: Oklahoma, Ireland, Australia,......

This morning brought the surprising and sad news of John Ritter's death. He was 54, and had died of an undetected heart defect, at Providence St. Joseph in Burbank, the same hospital he was born in according to the Today show. Ritter had been hospitalized since last Thursday, when he collapsed on the set of his new hit, 8 Simple Rules For Dating My Daughter. While Ritter has played many roles, he will be fondly......

Buffy the Vampire Slayer creator Joss Whedon answered Times readers' questions about the show, which wraps up its seven season tomorrow night on the UPN. Gothamist got a little misty-eyed, as we have loved watching the Scooby Gang fight vampires, growing up, and Evil, especially when reading Joss' intelligent ideas about character development on the show. Andrew directed us to Eric Wight's portfolio of Buffy Animated drawings. They are awesome, especially the character sketch of......

Adam Buckman of the Post has seen the Buffy finale and say it's awesome. But Gothamist did not realize there was talk of a Buffy the Vampire Slayer cartoon - Joss Whedon wanted it to be on par with "Animaniacs or Batman: The Animated Series." [ Read more in The Hollywood Reporter interview with Joss.] But, to recap the Dawson's Creek series finale: - Dawson is a TV writer who has created a show -......

Gothamist has been hearing a lot about Jasper Fforde lately, and Newsday has a feature about the British author (whose background includes stints as a film cameraman and living in a family of Oxonians). His books are described thusly: Part mystery, part science fiction, part satire, part lit-crowd entertainment, these hard-to-classify books cross genres with abandon. Consider what Fforde is juggling: Time-travel, newly discovered Shakespeare plays, a machine enabling people to enter classic works of......
