Photos via the Guggenheim Museum. Everyone's bursting with anticipation for the opening of Cai Guo-Qiang's new exhibit at the Guggenheim; the site-specific installation serves as a mid-career retrospective and is now just four short days away from being unveiled. The NY Times has a lengthy profile of the artist (who has lived in New York since 1995) which begins with this insight: "his favorite artistic moment is the pregnant pause between the lighting of......

I Want Someone To Eat Cheese With (directed by Jeff Garlin) While there's quite a few new releases coming out that are worth checking out this weekend (like the western and the spacemen documentary), we wanted to reserve our pick for a charming little movie you might have otherwise ignored. Written, directed and starring comedian Jeff Garlin (who we interviewed earlier this week), it's the kind of modest, looking-for-love-in-all-the-wrong-places story you don't often see these......

For one night only, Curb Your Enthusiasm's Jeff Garlin is bringing his popular LA show Combo Platter to NYC's UCB Theater. Every installment of CP begins with Garlin asking the audience for a topic that inspires a freewheeling conversation between he and his high-profile guests, in this case Curb Your Enthusiasm co-star Susie Essman and comedian Jim Gaffigan. A true gourmet comedy treat! Your film, I Want Someone to Eat Cheese With, is opening on......

Earlier this year reality television and Broadway collided in the form of "Grease: You're The One That I Want". The show aired on NBC and documented a trip down memory lane with a troupe of wannabe Sandys and Dannys all vying for the coveted roles. By the end, two were left standing, and tonight they make their debut in Grease at the Brooks Atkinson Theater. And now, with Xanadu, Broadway is hosting two movie-to-stage Olivia......

Grease: You're the One That I Want is the latest reality show to hit NBC. Apparently "the three most important people on Broadway" held an open casting call for their Broadway production of "Grease", which will hit the stage in June of 2007. They filmed the auditions, and voila, instant reality show! The last production of "Grease" on Broadway was in 1994. This next one will star two performers (to play Danny and Sandy)......

Yesterday morning, Mayor Bloomberg dedicated a memorial for American Airlines Flight 587, which crashed on November 12, 2001 in Belle Harbor, Queens. The Dominican Republic-bound plane had taken off from JFK Airport; turbulent air led the co-pilot to use the rudder to keep the plane up, but the rudder broke off. All 260 people on board - 251 passengers and 9 crew members - were killed when the plane crashed into the quiet residential......

THEATER: The Ontological-Hysteric Theatre itself is a great incubator for avant-garde performance art-type work, so when they have an incubator program themselves, you know what you're seeing there will be fresh and startling. Banana Bag and Bodice was in the program last year with Panel. Animal and is back with The Sewers, a "conjuring act" in which a village called, um, The Sewers, disappears one night in the theatre, leading to a love triangle and......

It seems like the Mets can't catch a break. Yesterday afternoon, Tom Glavine was involved in a car accident when he was in a cab on the way to Shea Stadium. Glavine returned from Atlanta, caught a cab at LaGuardia, and lost two front teeth when the taxi was involved in an accident with an SUV. Gothamist just took a look at Mapquest, and the trip is only 3.18 miles. What are the chances that......

A glimpse into the musical tastes of some bloggers can be seen at Professor Barnhardt's Journal, where Bob Sassone asked a few for their ultimate mix of 20 songs from the past 25 years, including me. Bob told us to "list your favorites, not some list of 'best' or 'popular' or 'influential,' or whatever VH-1 was doing with that thing." Lots of bloggers seem to be They Might Be Giants fans. Even so, fellow contributor,......
