How to Report Errors at Wishful Thinking

Are you in the right place?

This page is part of a historical resources website - you will need to look elsewhere for information on present day matters, local businesses, &c.

However if you want to report an error on either the Wishful Thinking website, or the pages I maintain for GENUKI, you will find the means to do so on this page.

If you're looking for assistance with your research, I regret I cannot help you on a one-to-one basis but I do provide a site FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions).

If you're looking for something else, a person, place, or just lost - please try "Who? What? Where?"

Note: if you are an experienced user and can tell me the exact URL of the page in error, you may wish to go straight to the Form I provide for reporting errors. Otherwise please check out the following steps:-

Step 1: Before contacting me to report an error:

  1. Are you sure it's one of my pages?
All pages prepared by me are easily identifiable as they have a
"Last updated [Date] - [Time] by Rosemary Lockie" statement at the bottom.
If the page you're looking at doesn't, it's not one of mine, and there will be nothing I can do about it!

  2. Is it information you wish was there but isn't?
An absence of the information you are looking for on one of my pages is perhaps unfortunate, but it is NOT an error. If you want to contribute more information yourself see my separate web page on Contributing Information.

  3. Is it in a transcribed source?
I am always happy to correct factual information I've supplied, or mistakes I've made in transcription, but please be aware that the original source itself may be 'factually challenged'. In this case the 'Golden Rule' is to record "as-is", rather than as we might like it, or even know it to be. So if the original source says 'pigs flying tonight' that is what we will transcribe.

  4. Is it a broken link?
There is no real need to report broken links since all internal links (within my own pages) are checked before I upload them to my website. External links within GENUKI are checked once a month by the GENUKI Spider, so all external links will be detected and corrected in due course.

You can, nevertheless report them if you wish, but before you do so, a more immediate solution may be suggested if you check out Question #5, "What can I do if the link I clicked on doesn't work?" in my list of Frequently Asked Questions, as it isn't (usually... :^)) the end of the world!

Step 2: What to tell me about the error:

Ok, I know this is difficult, but clairvoyance isn't one of my talents, so I really do need you to help me by telling me quite precisely what you were looking at when you noticed the problem. I need to know the following:-
  1. The URL (web address) of the page with the problem.
If you don't know what it is, tell me the TITLE of the web page. It will be displayed in your Windows TITLE bar, or at the top of the web page. Some of my newer pages also have a record of the URL (http://...) towards the bottom of the page - see this page for an example.

[Hint: Press the "Back" arrow on your browser's toolbar to look at the page again, and then "Forward" to return here - you won't break anything! Or if you have a browser with tabs use the tabs to switch...]

  2. A description of the problem - details of the information you were trying to reach, or of the factual details you'd like to correct; or any error message(s) you received.

  3. I would appreciate it if you supply your real name and a valid email address. I do understand if you feel reluctant about doing that, but allow me to reassure you that it will be used by me alone, and only for the purposes of providing feedback on your report.

Well, Ok, I would say that wouldn't I... but seriously, if the idea of feedback makes you feel that anxious, you probably don't want to fill in this form!

Step 3: I would now like you to provide this information on the form below.

NB: you are here because you want to report a broken link, or correct facts or transcription errors, either on my portion of the GENUKI site, or on our personal web site, Wishful Thinking.

If you are not sure, please check Step 1 again.

Please make sure you fill in your name and email address correctly!!!
(fields marked * are required please)

Your Name: *
E-mail: *
URL (web address) of the page with the error (q.v. Step 2 above) *
Please tell me about the error (q.v. Step 1 above) *
Your email address will only be used by me, and will not be passed to others.

THANK YOU!!!
If it's within my abilities I will do my best to fix it for you.
