WWII - Index
|
After more than three years and numerous emails asking "WHEN?", we are at last beginning to post the names of the World War II Distinguished Service Cross Recipients. To date we have identified a total of 5,065 Award Recipients as follows:
Army 3,984 Army Air Forces 762 U.S. Navy 21 U.S. Marines 31 U.S. Civilians 3 Foreign Allies 258
We believe that the 5,059 Names we have compiled comprise at least 99% of all awards of the Distinguished Service Cross during World War II. This section, however, remains our most incomplete work. Other than the WWII DSC citations, we have compiled all but 6 of the Korean War citations, and all but 44 of the Vietnam War citations. Of the more than 5,000 WWII citations however, we have compiled fewer than 1,000. These have been posted at our CITATIONS page containing the text of the citations we have digitized and with a synopsis (identifying unit/date of action/etc.) for the remaining 4,000+ recipients. To research WWII DSC ARMY and ARMY AIR FORCES awards please go to that page. The vast majority of the needed WWII citations ARE available and only funding hinders our timely efforts to digitize and post them. We are able to purchase WWII General Orders as we have funds available to do so, usually at a cost that averages out to close to $1 per recipient. YOUR contribution of $100 can enable us to add citations for an additional 100 DSC recipients. Please consider supporting this work so the DSC section can be completed in 2008, giving us freedom then to concentrate on the Silver Star database, which we expect to be a 3 - 5 year project. If you can help support this effort you can contribute using your credit card by clicking on the PayPal link at the right.
