British Militia, Volunteers & Fencibles

     Links lead to a dedicated regimental or battalion page. Regular infantry regiments with territorial links to Militia and Volunteer battalions are shown in boldface. Within each county, regiments are presented in traditional order of precedence: cavalry, artillery, engineers, infantry. All Scottish infantry were consolidated in 2006 as The Royal Regiment of Scotland.

     Some elements are not listed here:

• Modern county reorganisations (1970s and later). All regiments are listed under traditional counties.
• Yeomanry regiments (post 1967) which preserve county regimental identity at the squadron level.
• Consecutively numbered artillery regiments after 1920 (see Index of Territorial Artillery).
• Artillery regiments (post 1967) which preserve county regimental identity at the battery level.
• Yeomanry and infantry volunteers after their conversion to artillery, engineers and signals.
