Beautiful Gold Bond Certificate from the Great Northern Railway Company dated in 1926. This historic document was printed by American Banknote Company and has an ornate border around it with a vignette of an old railroad yard. This item has the signatures of the Company's Vice-President and Secretary and is over 82 years old.

The Great Northern Railway was created on September 18, 1889 when the name of the old Minneapolis & St. Cloud Railroad Company was changed to Great Northern Railway Company. The line eventually went from Lake Superior at Duluth and Minneapolis/St. Paul west through North Dakota, Montana and Northern Idaho to Washington State at Everett and Seattle. The headquarters for the line were located in St. Paul, Minnesota.

The following four railroads merged into the Burlington Northern Railroad on March 2, 1970:

Great Northern Railway

Northern Pacific Railway

Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad

Spokane, Portland & Seattle Railway
