This step can make the rest of the job alot cleaner if done properly, unfortunately those whose transmissions are locked up may not be able to warm up the engine to make the oil drain faster. Internal parts still move even in neutral with the clutch pulled in and could cause more damage.

Drain the oil and fluids

  1. Drain the oil from the motor by removing the bolt behind the shifter.
  2. Remove the drain bolt from the oil reservoir (hint - use a funnel)
  3. Remove the oil filter and drain it. (I put mine back on after its drained to protect the threads)
  4. Loosen the hoseclamp on the lower oil hose toward the oil tank, remove the line and drain
  5. Remove the upper oil line from the oil tank and drain it*
  6. Unbolt the tank and remove and set aside, put the hardware and bolts back into the frame

*The upper line for my oil tank was froze solid to the tank, I tried to loosen it but felt it may tear or crack the oil tank. Another thing I don't really feel like replacing so I removed the bottom line and was able to get the tank and upper line out of the frame and just left it connected to the motor

Locate a small clean drain pan for the antifreeze

  1. Use an 8mm boxed end wrench and remove the drain bolt for the waterpump on the right hand side of the motor (Tip - it will drain fast if the radiator cap is removed) Allow it to drain.
  2. Disconnect the lower radiator hose from the motor and drain into the pan
  3. Disconnect the upper hose from the head of the motor.
  4. Remove the intermediate hose from waterpump to cylinder

Use a paper towel to catch any metal fragments you may want to keep for good luck

While on this side of the motor, you can remove the clutch cable.

  1. Use the clutch lever adjustment to generate some slack in the cable.
  2. Loosen the 12mm nuts holding the cable in the holder on the right side of the motor
  3. Locate the clutch arm at the end of the cable and bend the "keeper tang" out of the way
  4. with slack on the cable remove the cable from the clutch arm.
