I did a bit of work with analog recording when I was in college for Audio Engineering. Wonderful sound, my ideal recording situation would be tracking to tape then dumping all the tracks to Pro Tools or another digital medium to mix/master. Gotta love the natural compression and pleasing distortion you get out of analog tape.

analogue is preferred by many to digital because when a soundwave clips against the side in digital, you get distortion and a harsh sound. with analogue, the extra sound wave just disappears off into space, which makes for a much more pleasant drum sound, but also the ability to get it really in yer face. that said, pro-tools makes things easier to isolate, etc, but it doesn't have the romance of tape.

That's not true, there are a few here and there, and most studios that are fully digital do have analog equipment, it's just not part of their standard setup.
