Yesterdays RFS dates seem to have generated a large amount of negative attention amongst campaigners. Whilst the quantity (52 dates) makes a slight impact in the 315 odd backlog, most people are more worried about 'queue jumping'.
Whilst some exchanges have been waiting 50 days or more for a RFS date, some in yesterdays announcement only had to wait 8 days for their date.
Furthermore, there have been many theories flying around lately - those most popular of which states that RFS dates are pre-determined long before an exchange even triggers. Previous articles and graphs on this site seemed to support that theory. However, looking at some of todays dates you can clearly see this is not the case. For example; Fossebridge received a trigger level back in July 2003, triggered 8 days ago and now has a RFS date in May. Sharpthorne received a trigger in the November 17th review, also triggered 8 days but received a RFS date in late March - only 2 months from now.
It is also worth mentioning that we were expecting almost all dates up until Christmas to be cleared in the latest batch. This was not the case though.
However, in BT's credit, no 150+ day provisional dates were released this time around.

* As a couple dozen of you have noticed, there was a big database error about 10:30pm last night that resulted in many exchanges falsely being labelled as having RFS dates. It's all fixed now though. |
