AOL launches new pricing based upon LLU availability

Posted: Tuesday 22nd May 2007 by Sam
AOL UK have today launched new pricing for their broadband services. The new pricing raises the cost of AOL broadband on non-LLU exchanges, and keeps the cost the same for AOL unbundled exchanges. It is believed that AOL have currently unbundled around 390 exchanges, and plans to increase this number significantly over the next year. Until now AOL has not differentiated services offered between LLU and non-LLU exchanges (they had used them purely as a cost saving mechanism). Competitors such as Sky and AOL UK's sister service TalkTalk have been offering reduced prices for customers in LLU areas for some time now.

The new pricing is structured as follows:
- Silver at £14.99 a month in LLU areas and at £24.99 a month in non-LLU areas.
- Platinum at £29.99 a month in LLU areas and at £39.99 a month in non-LLU areas.
- Contract length has increased from 12 to 18 months.

At present we do not report on AOL LLU availability on this site, although hope to do so in the near future. In the meantime you can check availability on AOL's site directly.

Update (23/05/2007): The old prices of £14.99 for Silver and £24.99 for Platinum will be also offered to those connected to an exchange targetted for future rollout. According to a report presented to financial analysts at the end of April, 900 exchanges will have been unbundled by March 2008. This is likely where AOL derive the figure of coverage for 60% of the population.
