Carphone Warehouse rollout update

Posted: Sunday 6th May 2007 by Sam
Carphone's targeted rollout of 1,000 exchanges just over a year ago has already been surpassed. No less than 1,134 exchanges have been unbundled now. What's potentially even more interesting is that they are targetting a further 500 exchanges by March 2008 (see page 36 of CPW's annual strategy day PDF). Also of interest in the same document is AOL's current rollout of 390 exchanges, with 900 targeted by March next year. Quite how much coverage overlap there is between the two newlywed providers remains unknown.

The update to Carphone's coverage also confirms that there are now upwards of 20 unbundled exchanges in Northern Ireland (23 by CPW, 1 by Tiscali at present). Rumour has it that Sky/Easynet will be joining them soon too.

Sky and Be* remain very active in their LLU rollout, with both of them undbundling around 150 exchanges since my last post two months ago. It is also interesting to note that Sky's coverage is now a subset of Carphone Warehouse's (i.e. every exchange that Sky have unbundled, Carphone Warehouse have unbundled too).
