Some LLU updates

Posted: Tuesday 6th March 2007 by Sam
If 2006 truly was the "year of LLU", then it appears that someone forgot to tell Be* (O2), Easynet (Sky) and Carphone Warehouse (TalkTalk) that we're now in 2007. All three companies have started 2007 with the same fervour as they finished 2006 with.

LLU deployment in the past 12 months

It was under three weeks ago that Be* reported that they had just enabled their 500th exchange [Link]. As of this morning, we're tracking 556 Be* enabled exchanges. With the pressure on from O2 to launch a broadband product some time in the Summer, it seems they are pulling out all the stops to get as much coverage as possible.

It should be noted that Be* have also been the subject of some confusion amongst forum members recently, as planned enablement dates for some exchanges seemed to vanish. Be* have informed us that the first batch to go missing last month were removed because firm dates could no longer be guaranteed for them. The second batch over the weekend have since reappeared (a database glitch was to blame apparently). Be* are presently targetting 833 exchanges, of which 832 are listed on here. The missing exchange is Sefton Park, which has been delayed but will be enabled very shortly apparently.

Easynet, under the direction of Sky now, had aim to get to 700 exchanges by Autumn 2006. Uncontent with that figure they have now shot to 836 unbundled exchanges - 57 of which have been activated in the past month.

It is not known precisely how many exchanges Carphone Warehouse have actually unbundled now, but the figure is believed to be around 700 (based upon recent finanical reports). What is known though is that they have upped their original 1,000 targeted coverage to nearly 1,400. Carphone Warehouse are also the first operator to target LLU deployment in Northern Ireland, with 22 exchanges now on the list. We're working on getting a complete list of all the live exchanges, but this is a slow process I'm afraid.

Finally, please rest assured that even though I don't get to post news as often as I like, the data on the site is constantly being updated.
