Be bought by O2

Posted: Tuesday 20th June 2006 by Sam
The Telegraph is this morning reporting that mobile group O2, itself recently purchased by Telefonica, has bought LLU operator Be Un Limited for £50m. The fact that O2 has been looking to acquire an LLU operator has been common knowledge for some time, as they have been tied to potential deals with both Bulldog and Tiscali already.

Be is a young unbundler, having operated for less than two years. However, in that time they have introduced 24Mbps broadband to 159 exchanges and have targetted another 300-odd for deployment by the end of the year. Further to this, Be also have a very good reputation amongst their user base.

Quite how this acquisition will affect Be's ongoing operations and future deployment is unclear. One can only hope that their new owners try to ensure that their good reputation and service is maintained, and is not lost at the expense of new services and changes that may be introduced.
