Wanadoo becomes Orange and launches its own free broadband

Posted: Wednesday 31st May 2006 by Sam
It has been advertised for a couple of weeks now and common knowledge for even longer, but today it's official - Wanadoo are to rebrand to Orange as of tomorrow.

In conjunction with this announcement, they have also launched their 'free' broadband service as well. As expected, this requires you to have a £30+ per month mobile contract with Orange and sign up for 18 months. They state in the press release that the package is worth £17.99, so it seems reasonable to assume that they are alluding to Wanadoo's Broadband Plus package. This offers up to 8Mbps broadband, a "Livebox" ADSL router and a 2GB per month cap. Free weekend and evening calls will be available via their 'Wireless & Talk' VOIP package. This can be upgraded for £6 per month to allow free calls all the time. As with TalkTalk's broadband offer, this does require you to sign an 18 month contract though.

Orange's and TalkTalk's 'free' broadband offers are quite similar at first glance. Orange's offer will require you to have a BT landline (£11 per month) and an Orange pay monthly contract (£30+ per month). TalkTalk's offer requires that you take out their line and their Talk3 package (£20.99; per month in total). It should also be noted that TalkTalk's monthly cap is 40GB, whereas Orange's is 2GB. Of course, anyone considering taking one of these offers would be well advised to do some more research first. Reading about other peoples experiences of the ISP and its services on forums such as ADSLGuide is certainly a good start.
