Brief update on ADSL Max

Posted: Friday 31st March 2006 by Sam
It's easy to see that ADSL Max has got everyone rather excited at the moment. Forum posts on the subject are seemingly endless in number and the bt.com/broadband website seemed to slow a crawl at midnight as the nations most eager broadband users simultaneously clicked "Go" on the availability checker.

However, a note of caution. ADSL Max is not yet live on the checkers and it will probably remain that way until much later in the day. Further to this, I hear that an updated list of all the exchanges will be published later today. This will detail those exchanges that have slipped - and there will almost certainly be some I'm afraid. Until firm information is available I shall only be upgrading exchanges with a "Green" status to report Max as being enabled.

Please remember that although your exchange may go live for ADSL Max today, you will not be able to receive it today. Your ISP must first regrade your line to the Max product, as BT Wholesale are not regrading every end-user to Max automatically. Some ISP's are regrading automatically, others are not. It would be best to check with your ISP to confirm their plans and associated lead times.

In an unrelated piece of news, but one that does not really warrant its own headline, we're moving the primary samknows.com server this evening. There should be no downtime to any samknows.com service (web, API's, etc) as we've failed over to a backup server. Of course, if you have any issues please don't hesitate to contact me.

Update (8:45am): BT Wholesale have updated their database and associated checkers. Potential line speeds under ADSL Max are now being reported via both our checker and the BT Wholesale checker.
