Broadband Wales Programme brings ADSL to remaining 35 exchanges

Posted: Tuesday 14th March 2006 by Sam
Andrew Davies, Minister for Economic Development and Transport, has today announced that BT have been awarded the contract to supply broadband to the remaining 35 unviable exchanges in Wales. Work will commence immediately, with the first RFS date due at the end of June. 32 RFS dates were released in total, which can be found on the Wales RFS date page. The final three exchanges are yet to have their RFS dates confirmed. At present these RFS dates are not appearing on the BT checkers. This should change within the next few days.

It is good to see that the programme is not just delivering 512Kbps ADSL to these areas either. The 10,000 households and businesses will be able to receive a minimum of 2Mbps (dependant upon on the quality of the line of course). Furthermore, the statement goes on to add that these exchanges will benefit from ADSL Max too, which allows up to 8Mbps ADSL.

The full press release can be found here.
