Given BT Wholesale's fast approaching planned rollout announcement (due June 30th by the way!), and the very successful Milton Keynes extended reach trial, it is all too easy to forget about those with TPON lines. TPON (Telephony over Passive Optical Networks) users are unable to receive ADSL broadband because ADSL will only operate over copper cabling - TPON uses fiber optics. One work-around for this problem is copper-overlay, which, as the name suggests, involves laying (extra) copper along-side the existing fibre.
I have recently been receivng a growing number of emails from TPON users wanting to know what progress is being made in their area. Their stories are often very similar - first they contact BT Wholesale (who do not deal directly with end users) who tell them to contact the ISP, then they contact the ISP and are told to contact BT. As you can imagine, this becomes tiresome very quickly.
Anyway, last week a kind person sent me through a recent TPON update file from BT (the file is dated 17th May 2004). As we did some time ago, I am now making the file available on this website.
