Update from the Milton Keynes trial

Posted: Friday 7th May 2004 by Sam
As a part of the Milton Keynes extended reach trial, BT will be providing regular correspondance to the Milton Keynes Broadband Action Group. The first round of communication was supplied by BT today and provides some additional details about the trial.

The page will soon display schematics of the new ADSL faceplate and main phone socket which may be required in some cases. In addition to this being provided for free, the engineer will also install up to 30 metres of CAT5 (ethernet) cable allowing you to have your computer away from the main phone socket. BT will not be charging for this engineer visit. However, it is currently unclear if ISP's participating in the trial will charge customers any extra, although it is unlikely.

The full details can be found by clicking here.

Update (11am, 8th May): It appears that BT will be excluding those with ISDN (Home Highway, ISDN2e, etc) from the trial. This is a big blow for many residents, as they were forced onto ISDN when they realised ADSL was not available. The source, and a large collection of responses from Milton Keynes residents, can be found by clicking here.
