RFS Dates at last!

Posted: Thursday 18th March 2004 by Paul & Sam
The greatly anticipated RFS dates have at last arrived. With 89 dates in total, this is a reasonably large list. However, we must take into account that this is infact a list for 2 weeks, which averages to 45.5 dates per week, which is nowhere near the current average of 70 exchanges triggering per week. Still, we'll have to wait and see what the solution planned for the end of the month is.

It is also worth noting that this list included only 8 provisional dates (RFS dates greater than 150 days from now). However, some of these are nearly a year away. Hatherleigh has now knocked Llansteffan off the longest trigger to enablement chart with 398 days compared to the latters 380 days.

The UK now has 2414 ADSL enabled telephone exchanges, 642 exchanges with RFS dates (excludes provisional dates), 403 awaiting a RFS date to be set, 1538 trying to reach their trigger and 594 who have no trigger level at all (including the two remaining unviable exchanges).

The 89 RFS dates released today are shown below.

A further message from Donna Young (General Manager, Broadband Britain, BT Wholesale) was also posted on the BT campaigner message boards. In this she acknowledged that they realised that these weren't all the dates that people had hoped for, and also that they were hoping to get back to a regular announcement day (see the following quote).

"Our teams are working to re-establish a regular flow of RFS dates being released and we’ll let you know soon when to expect updates – it should be a Thursday. We’ve also picked up on your feedback that if for some reason we can’t release any dates on the expected day you’d like to know. If that is the case, and we will do all we can to avoid it happening, we’ll tell you."
(Donna Young, Thursday 18th March 2004)
