Dude, where's my RFS date?

Posted: Saturday 13th March 2004 by Sam
This morning Cuckoo Oak triggered and took the number of exchanges waiting for a firm RFS date to 400. Having not received any RFS dates this week, and only 25 last week, many campaigners are becoming increasingly frustrated at the ever lengthening delays. The fact that the regular announcement day (Wednesday) is frequently missed does not help matters either.

The graph below shows how the number of exchanges waiting to be issued a RFS date has risen by 800% since October 2003.

BT have publicly admitted that the number of exchanges triggering since the "Big Review" of November 17th 2003 has caught them off guard. Part of the problem is that detailed site surveys were not carried out before the 2300 triggers were released (they were based upon a mathematical formula), which means that they must be carried out post-triggering instead. They have even taken on additional resources (presumably planners and contractors) to help ease the burden.

However, with a backlog now in excess of 400, and an average of over 70 exchanges triggering each week, how long will it be before this situation really is under control?
