IRIN Services and Projects:
The core text and in-depth services produce daily, weekly and special reports on subjects of interest to the humanitarian community, with a focus on crises and emergencies. Articles are provided free of charge via the web and e-mail. IRIN covers sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and parts of Asia, targeting the information needs of the humanitarian community, affected populations and media.
IRIN's HIV/AIDS news and analysis service is distributed in English, French and Portuguese and provides news and analysis, features, country briefs and treatment maps concerning the syndrome as it affects people in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia.
IRIN Radio is active in Afghanistan, Angola, Burundi, Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia, Somalia and Sudan. The service has produced news programmes that have reached millions of people, and works with radio stations in conflict-affected countries to help improve their programming. IRIN supports these stations through the co-production of programmes, including soap operas and news magazine shows, as well as in training radio journalists.
IRIN’s award-winning film unit highlights the plight of vulnerable people trapped in forgotten humanitarian emergencies. Short documentaries and news packages are distributed to broadcasters, advocacy groups and humanitarian actors. IRIN documentaries most recently highlighed poverty and mining in Tanzania, the scourge of cluster bombs in Lebanon and the fragile situation in Somalia.
The IRIN Photo unit provides a public gallery of photographs relevant to humanitarian actors and international media. Print-quality photos can be downloaded and cover the world’s most pressing humanitarian crises.
