Background:     The Austrian Platform against CSEC is a coalition of eight NGOs working on child rights issues. In November 2003, respect initiated the foundation of the Austrian Platform and is currently the coordinator and providing office for infrastructure, with two working groups, which were established in 2004. One group, ’Tourism and Exploitation' focuses on pushing and lobbying for implementation of the Code of Conduct in Austria and among Austrian tour operators. The second group, ’Trafficking and Child Rights and the role of Austria' focuses on monitoring implementation of child rights laws in Austria and on research around child prostitution and child pornography.

Activities:     respect was the national partner, along with other national ECPAT groups from Europe, involved in the ’Code of Conduct' project which aimed at developing and implementing the Code in tourist sending and receiving countries. respect is currently facilitating the implementation of the Code of Conduct in Bulgaria and Romania, in collaboration with the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). In Romania, respect is working in unison with the ECPAT affiliate, Save the Children Romania. respect is also coordinating the implementation of the Code of Conduct in Kenya, with support from the Austrian Development Cooperation and a tour operator, Hotelplan Switzerland. The national ECPAT group, ECPIK, and various Kenyan partners are also involved. Some Platform members are supporting the implementation actively through networking with partners or affiliates in the respective countries.

In 2004, an exhibition on awareness raising for CSEC and especially ’Child Sex Tourism' was produced by the Platform and will be shown in different regions in Austria throughout 2005. The Platform is also organising public events, discussions and establishing partnerships with schools and youth organisations.

The Austrian Platform is also partnering with the Austrian law enforcement on improving and strengthening police training. Another main area of focus is a research project on the implementation of child rights, conventions and action plans in Austria as well as an exploration of the child prostitution situation along the Austrian border with the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
