DESCRIPTION OF RULES AND CLASSIFICATIONS OF CARGO

      General Cargo, signifies all cargo merchandise registered under an AIRWAY BILL.

General Cargo Regulations

Shipping rules are upheld according to IATA Manuals where conditions and responsibilities of carrier and shipper are stipulated. The shipper may obtain complete information about export / import permits, or veterinary health certificates, animal species, export permits, veterinary ,exam requirements and all documentation and information for any transportation of specific cargo are documented.


Perishable Cargo

Perishable Cargo subject to damage due to weather changes, temperature, or any other normal situation as well as in the case of excessive duration of transfer time, can be relatively certain of its arrival in good condition to its established destination. Bookings will be accepted in advance. Packages and documents need to be clearly labeled as "Perishables".

Perishable Cargo Regulations

In order to avoid harm, damage or destruction of your perishable goods, Perishable Cargo, needs to be appropriately packaged for its transport, and can only then be accepted.

Hazardous Goods

Hazardous Goods are articles or substances which may create a risk to someones health, safety and or property.

There are some Hazardous Goods that can be transported ONLY in an All-Cargo aircraft.

Hazardous Goods Regulations

Regulations for this Cargo, are stated in the Regulations of IATA which include all Technical Instructions of OACI requirements, for the transportation of Hazardous Goods without risk.

Shipper's Responsibilities

The shipper/forwarder must comply fully with specific regulations when offering a consignment of hazardous goods. In addition, shippers must comply with any specific regulation by the transit and destination country. The violation of any regulation is subject to legal penalty.

Before any package of hazardous goods for air transport can be accepted it must comply with the following requirements:

  • Identify correctly all hazardous articles and substances included in the shipment.
  • Classify every shipment of hazardous goods.
  • Determine the type of package and label with a specific indication.
  • Shipper’s written declaration for hazardous goods is required.
  • The shipper must attach the proper hazardous goods label to each package.


Live Animals

For Live Animal transport, shippers must obtain in advance all of the information concerning export/import information of the animal, health status and veterinary certificates, veterinarian exams, quarantine requirements, transfers, prohibitions or restrictions. Indications for the animal’s food must be included. Such regulations are subject to frequent change and depend on the animal being transported. The shipper needs to obtain all current requirements established by their local Consulate or by the national authority to which the animal will pertain.

Live Animal Regulations

Requirements set forth by IATA, for Live Animal air transportation are:
  • Animals must appear to be in good health and in good condition to arrive to its final destination.
  • Packing or cage must be clean, leak-proof and escape-proof, to allow for safe handling.
  • Additional articles: e.g., food accompanying the shipment may be included within the chargeable overall shipment weight.
  • Confirmation of shipping space must be made on the Carrier’s flights and must include the possible connecting flights and include the airport of final destination.
  • Live animals may not be mixed and shipped with other goods.
  • Animal health documents and rabies vaccination certificates are required.


Valuable Cargo

Valuable cargo means a consignment which contains one or more of the following articles:

  • Any article having a declared value of the equivalent or of a value of more than US$. 1000. - per gross kilogram. (In United Kingdom GBP 450. - /Kg.).
  • Gold Bullion-(refined or unrefined), in coins, pellet form, sheet, bar, powder, sponge, wire, cable, circles and/or moldings.
  • Platinum- platinum metals (palladium, iridium, osmium, ruthenium, rhodium), and platinum alloys in the form of pellets, sponge, bar, nugget, sheet, wire, gauze, tube and/or strip (except for radioactive isotopes of these metals and alloys which automatically require labeling as Hazardous Goods).
  • Legal banknotes- valuable documents, shares, share coupons and valuable stamps, (excluding mint stamps from United Kingdom).
  • Diamonds- (including diamonds for industrial use), rubies, emeralds, sapphires, opals and natural pearls, (including cultured pearls).
  • Jewelry consisting of diamonds, emeralds, sapphires, opals and real pearls, (including cultured pearls).
  • Jewelry and watches made of silver and/or gold and/or platinum.
  • Articles made of gold and/or platinum other than gold and/or platinum plated.
Valuable Cargo Regulations

Valuable cargo will be accepted for transport, provided that:

  • They are not mixed with other goods: a consolidated shipment may, however, be wholly composed of valuables.
  • They are packed in such a manner that the contents cannot be tampered with or removed without visible evidence of tampering.
  • Advance arrangements have been made.


Human Cadaver Remains (Cremated, Embalmed)

International Routes

For the transport of Human Cadaver Remains: International Routes adhere to the following requirements:

Non-Cremated Remains.

Non-cremated remains must be contained in a soldered inner coffin of lead or zinc. This in turn must be packed in a subsequent wooden and/or cardboard container.(The nature of the content may not distinguishable).

  • For this kind of cargo transportation, a death certificate stipulating embalming must be presented in which the reason of death is stated and that death was not caused by an infectious nor contagious illness.
  • Transportation certificate issued by the corresponding or appropriate authority.
  • Transportation of flowers and funeral wreaths will not be allowed while transporting the human remains.
Cremated Remains.

Cremated Remains must be shipped in specific funeral urns, which are sufficiently protected against breakage. The following documents are required:

  • Death certificate.
  • Cremated remains certificate.
  • Transportation certificate issued by the correct legal authority.
Domestic Routes

For transport of Human Cadaver Remains , the following requirements are to be fulfilled: Coffin must be covered by a canvas or other packaging (the nature of the content may not be apparent).

The following documentation must accompany cargo:

  • A death certificate in which the cause of death is stated. establishing that death was not caused by an infectious or contagious illness.
  • Transportation certificate by the Honorable Alcaldía Municipal if Domestic.
  • Transportation of flowers and funeral wreaths will not be allowed while transporting the human remains.


Cargo Regulations  -  LAB Airlines
