Welcome to all teachers and students interested in learning more about censorship. In this section you will find material to help with assignments and lesson plans. You will also find information on how schools can follow the law when showing films to students.

This section is more suitable for high school students and their teachers. If you are a primary school student or teacher, please contact the Information Unit.

The Office has put together background material to support Media Studies Level 3 Achievement Standard AS90779 - Investigate an aspect of media and explain its significance for New Zealand. You will find case studies and an introduction to censorship law and its history.

This material may also be useful at earlier levels of NCEA.
