Copy-text is the Riverside collected edition of Hawthorne's works published by Houghton Mifflin Co. in 1882, pages 423-637. The first edition, sized for children's hands, was printed by Hawthorne's future sister-in-law. A second edition contained illustrations, not reproduced here.
