Birds can run; it's grounded in stats
It could be a sign of the Apocalypse, or merely another indication that the Eagles have become a very tough team to beat: Andy Reid's offense is ranked first in the NFL in rushing after battering the New York Giants for 299 yards on the ground in Monday night's 17-3 victory. Though that does not indicate any change in philosophy, it does mean the Eagles have solved the problem of tough defenses that focus on stopping their passing game.

MORE COVERAGE

The bottom line | Reid proud of No. 1 running game
A fluke? A one-game wonder? Not anymore. Not the No. 1-ranked running game in the NFL.

Emmons' hamstring is acting up again
Just a few flips of the calendar ago, Carlos Emmons was overjoyed that the bye week had allowed his strained left hamstring to heal. Emmons was the dominant defensive player of the Eagles' Oct. 20 victory over Tampa Bay.

Eagles Notes | Giants' Collins: Dawkins crossed line
Brian Dawkins' hit on Giants wide receiver Ike Hilliard was still reverberating yesterday. The Giants announced that Hilliard would be out for the season with a dislocated right shoulder. Meanwhile, in New York, there was an outcry about the hit. Dawkins was penalized 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct for lowering his head and drilling Hilliard after the receiver failed to catch a Kerry Collins pass.

NFL | Seattle signs QB George as backup
The Seattle Seahawks, needing help at quarterback after Trent Dilfer's season-ending torn Achilles' tendon, signed veteran Jeff George yesterday.

McNabb haunts Giants in 17-3 victory
Sometime early this morning, after the long bus ride home, the New York Giants' defenders caught a couple of hours of fitful sleep. They all dreamed the same nightmare. They were running after Donovan McNabb, but he kept getting farther away.

Bill Lyon | Birds send Vet off Monday stage in style
On a moonless night, with All Hallows' Eve nigh, for the 31st, and last, time, Veterans Stadium was bathed in the bright lights and blood lust of Monday Night Football. She went out on style.

Runyon gets best of rumble with Strahan
Since this was the last Monday Night Football game in Veterans Stadium, no one should have been surprised that two of its principals were tuned up and looking to rumble by the time they hit the parking lot last evening.

Eagles Journal | Goulish game had its scares

Eagles Notes | Mitchell reaches milestone
It took only a couple of seconds last night for Brian Mitchell to hit a milestone that actually was a career in the making.<

Shockey revises appraisal after loss
Last night, in the gloom of the Giants locker room, Jeremy Shockey wasn't nearly as talkative. And nowhere near as brash.

What a rush: Eagles win, 17-3
Sometime early this morning, after the long bus ride home, the New York Giants defenders caught a couple of hours of fitful sleep. They all were haunted by the same nightmare. They were running after Donovan McNabb, but he kept getting farther away. They reached out to grab fistfuls of his jersey, only to find their hands empty.

McNabb's incredible feet
THE WHOLE GAME, Donovan McNabb kept looking for open receivers and finding open real estate instead. It isn't the way the West Coast offense is supposed to work, especially not in McNabb's fourth year - the Eagles' quarterback takes a lot of pride in being able to beat teams more with his arm than his feet. But when defenders have their hands around your ankles and the team needs a big play, you do what you have to do.

Bill Lyon | Simplicity gives Giants a blue Monday
On a moonless night, with All Hallows' Eve nigh, for the 31st - and last - time, Veterans Stadium was bathed in the bright lights and blood lust of Monday Night Football.

Rich Hofmann | Winning moment delivered by you know who
SAME TIME, NEXT YEAR. Same game, only different. Because last year, the Eagles and Giants met on a Monday night in October and the Giants proceeded to kick the Eagles all over Giants Stadium in the first half. But the Giants led by only 9-0 at the intermission.

Paul Domowitch | Ground game glorious again
FOR THE second straight week, the Eagles' offense proved it's not a one-trick pony. For the second straight week, it proved that it can move the ball on the ground when it needs to as well as through the air.

John Smallwood | Birds have fate in their hands
TO SAY THE least, the 18th and final "Monday Night Football" game at Veterans Stadium left a few things to be desired. It wasn't pretty. It wasn't

McNabb shines in lusterless matchup
The last Monday night game at Veterans Stadium turned into a strange sort of macho matchup starring Donovan McNabb, who helped the Eagles run the Giants into frustration, desperation and exhaustion on the way to a 17-3 victory.

Birds let noisy Giant play his way, and he pays for it
The last thing on Jeremy Shockey's mind last night was an apology. Instead, he talked. And talked. And when Shockey didn't talk, he clapped his hands and pumped his fists and drew attention to himself. To the delight of Eagles fans, he also drew a 15-yard penalty for taunting, a holding penalty and a pass-interference penalty in the Giants' 17-3 loss at Veterans Stadium.

Newcomer Adams helps improve special teams
Crunch Time is a compilation of hits and misses from last night's game. There had been some uncertainty over whether he knew enough of the Eagles' formations to play this quickly, but Keith Adams was out there for the opening kickoff, blocking between Ike Reese and Barry Gardner.
