Bush approves $50 million for Pakistan |
President George W Bush has authorised $50 million (around £34.3 million) in assistance to Pakistan.
Bush authorised the aid in a memo to Secretary of State Colin Powell.
Pakistan has agreed to let the US use its airspace for possible military action.
In turn, the US lifted the economic sanctions it placed on Pakistan in 1998 because of its nuclear tests.
Bush's action comes on the heels of the International Monetary Fund's decision, with US assent, to give Pakistan a $135 million (around £92.6 million) loan.
