Edmonds is an All-Star for the second time in his career.
Cardinals center fielder Jim Edmonds, named to his second All-Star team on Wednesday , and starting first baseman Mark McGwire were joined on the National League All-Star team by Cardinals righthander Darryl Kile. Kile (11-5) made the team in 1993 and 1997 for Houston but did not pitch in either game. Edmonds, who turned 30 on June 27 and is hitting .342 with 24 homers, made his other All-Star Game appearance in 1995 with the Angels.

• 1B Mark McGwire is the Busch Stadium career home run leader with 105 in 218 games. OF Ray Lankford is second with 103 in 671 games.
• C Keith McDonald became the third player in Cardinals' history to homer in his first major league at-bat when he smacked a pinch solo shot in the eighth inning Tuesday. Eddie Morgan (1936) and Wally Moon (1954) are the other two. Like McDonald, Morgan's also came as a pinch hitter.
