Speed
A million bikes and seventeen years: that's the level of experience that's behind the Dahon Speed, a folding bike which makes no compromises when it comes to performance. Dahon are expert in making affordable folding bikes: but with the Speed, fast riding pleasure was top priority.

High-pressure Primo tyres on 20" (406) Alex hollow-section alloy rims give a fast, zippy ride. The Sachs 3x7 transmission provides 21 gears without the clutter of a front derailleur. A three-speed hub-gear option is also available for those who prefer pure hub gearing. Gripshift gear changers and V-brakes provide fingertip control. The Pro-max seat-post suspension soaks up bumps, with 41mm of travel. With a lightweight 4130 cromoly frame, the Speed weighs only 12.5kg. Eyelets are provided for a rear rack and full mudguards, and Dahon produce a full range of accessories.

Folding takes just 10-15 seconds, and uses Dahon's patented 'Lite-Touch' system. Large levers open or close easily with little hand force - yet lock absolutely solid and play-free. The folding procedure is simple: fold the pedal, saddle down, stem up, fold down the handlebars, then fold the main frame. Both frame and handlebar latches are secured with safety catches when the bike is being ridden. The Speed makes a compact package of around 28 x 56 x 81cm (11" x 22" x 31"), with the chain neatly inside. The main frame clamp linkage-bar even makes a comfortable carry-handle.

The Speed is Dahon's flagship folder: it joins a range of over 80 models, all of them folding. Every style of machine is available, from full-size aluminium mountain bikes with suspension forks to conventional city shopping bikes. There's also a stainless-steel folder, the Quest, with 16" (349) or 20" (406) wheels.
