Product description

Review

A sensational achievement ... the story of a man and a woman whose passion, at first crude and then tender, drives them to murder, has a pitiless brevity that has its own magnificence ― NEWS CHRONICLE

It is no accident that movies based on three [of Cain's novels] helped to define the genre known as film noir ―
NEW YORK TIMES REVIEW OF BOOKS

One of the great crime novels of all time -- Tony Parsons ― EXPRESS

The novel's rattling exuberance makes it impossible to read without becoming physically buzzed ―
SPIRIT & DESTINY

Cain has established a formidable reputation of furious pace, harsh and masterful realism, tough, raw speech right out of the mouths of the people ―
SATURDAY REVIEW

A good, swift, violent story -- Dashiell Hammett

A poet of the tabloid murder -- Edmund Wilson

The most starkly elemental thing that has been written for years ―
EVENING STANDARD

From the Back Cover

An amoral young tramp. A beautiful, sullen woman with an inconvenient husband. A problem that has only one grisly solution--a solution that only creates other problems that no one can ever solve.
First published in 1934 and banned in Boston for its explosive mixture of violence and eroticism, The Postman Always Rings Twice is a classic of the "roman noir. It established James M. Cain as a major novelist with an unsparing vision of America's bleak underside, and was acknowledged by Albert Camus as the model for "The Stranger.

America's Theresa Raquin : but with a difference !!
The basic premise has been done to death : Woman persuades her Lover to murder her Husband .Zola set the standard with Theresa Raquin .You know its never going to end well for one or other of the murderous couple or more usually both .Especially if they're caught . And it begins to look like either its gonna be him or her . On the end of a rope !!But Love conquers all ! Maybe , just maybe , that's the message U take from The Postman Always Rings Twice .Or maybe not !!
