I never realised that the citizens of Guernsey were taken prisoners really for no reason by the Germans.
This story which is based on true events of what one family went through during the second war brought a lot of emotions to mind while reading it. Frederick the father worked so hard to build up a business from nothing with the help of his wife Ruth. They had a daughter Margaret. The whole family was taken prisoners and they lost everything. You get a glimpse of how bad it was in the two prison camps that they were held in. Reading between the lines I think that it was even worse than what has been described by Margaret the daughter who narrated this book.
I think this lady was very brave to relive some of the horrors of her life and bring to light on how the Guerns were the forgotten people during and after the war.
