Little Bear's Spring is a glorious reminder for children and adults of just how wonderful the natural world is, and that, sometimes, the unlikeliest of friendships are the best kind.

Little Bear has just woken up from his long winter sleep. But when he pokes his head out of the den, the world around him is vast, white and silent. The only thing he sees is a smooth little stone, just as alone in the snowy wilderness as he is. He nestles it in tight to his fur and off they go in search of friends.

Little Bear's Spring is a lyrical story about friendship, with a gentle introduction to spring and what happens to the natural world when the seasons change. Written by star picture book author Elli Woollard and illustrated by Briony May Smith, whose artwork brings a sun-dappled springtime landscape to life with breathtaking beauty.

Beautifully illustrated and a great story
Absolutely gorgeous book!!The story is all about a little bear who wakes up from hibernation and is trying to make sense of what's happening to the world around him. As he travels he learns what spring means to the animals he meets before returning home to mummy.Beautifully illustrated and a touching story. We had so much fun with this book, using it in lots of our play set ups.

Gorgeous little book. Love the way in every page there isn't just the bear but wolves, beavers, birds, geese, all part of the ecology of the North American woodlands. It's gorgeous and educational in a gentle way. A lovely feel good book. It's for kids but you've an excuse if your a parent to read it. I am not a parent and I am 58. I did the Covid 19 national statistics census and put my vouchers in to amazon to buy books that are highly visual. Little works of art.

A curious bear cub awakens from his long winters nap, eager to find a friend.
The birds are too busy preparing for spring. The gates are in a hurry. The wolves have plans that don’t involve friendship...
Will this sweet little bear cub find a companion?
We LOVED this book! The story is adorable and the illustrations are so beautiful!

A lovely story, beautiful illustrations.... we just skip over the bit where the wolves say that the little bear looks good to eat! Not great when my granddaughter is already scared from the little red riding hood story!

Beautiful illustrations and a great story about persistence and not necessarily needing the validation of others.

2.0 out of 5 stars Since when do we throw away "broken" friends out of frustration...?
Reviewed in France on 22 March 2024
A basic story, but nice enough on the whole, and pretty illustrations, but lots of inconsistencies and a message that deeply shocked all my students and even made one of them cry! So.. A bear cub wakes up alone without his family (???) and within a few seconds, takes a small pebble as a friend. After a series of mishaps, the little pebble shows a little crack. Tired and frustrated, the little bear kicks it out, telling it "you're no good anymore"... Yep. That's how we do now. A very educational story. We really want all our children to do the same. My kids were absolutely shocked and couldn't really focus on the story after that, I had to come up with tons of excuses for the cub.. Of course, you'll have realized that the little pebble is actually an egg. After a while, the two "friends" (define 'friends') are reunited with their respective families, who had obviously left without them and were gathered around a lake. Yep.. Two stars for the illustrations, I think that's generous.
