Uruguay reaffirms Argentina's Malvinas claim and its commitment to Falkland Islanders 'interests'

Uruguay's position “consistent in time” is based on “the understanding that the Malvinas Islands issue is directly linked to the territorial integrity of States”

Uruguay's foreign ministry expressed on Friday its “most firm support” for the 'legitimate rights' of Argentina's sovereignty claim over the Malvinas Islands, other insular territories in the South Atlantic and surrounding maritime spaces, currently administered by the United Kingdom.

Penguins in addition to being stealthy swimmers and keen hunters, unique video footage has revealed a dark side: a video camera attached to the back of a gentoo penguin swimming off the Falkland Islands captures a violent underwater scuffle where penguins steal food right out of each other’s beaks.

Luis Alberto Lacalle, the Ex-President of Uruguay, is currently in the Falkland Islands on a week-long tour, along with Uruguayan Elected Representative Mario Jaime Trobo. Lacalle served as President from 1990 to 1995 and Trobo is presently a Member of the International Affairs Committee.

Falkland’s Demining Project fourth phase draws to a close

Chileans that damaged a Malvinas monument in Rosario were finally set free

Last February first, 46 followers of the football team Universidad de Chile were detained for scribbling and graffiti at the Malvinas monument

The two young Chileans that remained in custody following the graffiti and damages to the Monument to the Malvinas fallen in the National Flag park of the city of Rosario, Argentina were finally set free by Federal Judge Carlos Vera Barros who decided a “lack of merit” in the charges.

The pictures show a giant Russian-made transport plane landed at Newquay Airport in Cornwall before it headed out across the Atlantic to the Falkland Islands. The enormous Antonov AN-124 was in Cornwall to pick up two search and rescue helicopters, before heading out on the rest of its journey.

Falklands with “no big concentrations of Illex” this season, which is “worrying”

Scientist Arkhipkin said they would need to wait until February 24/25 to see whether the Illex would appear but, and “if it is not there it is a strange situation”.

Early indications from scientific surveys are showing “no big concentrations of Illex,” in the Falkland Islands waters or on the high seas, “which is worrying,” said Falkland Islands Government Senior Fisheries Scientist Sasha Arkhipkin as reported by the Penguin News.
