The Football Association Board approves the use of video technology to aid referees

Soccer's law-makers gave the green light this weekend to the use of video technology to aid referees in live matches starting no later than the 2017-18 season. The International Football Association Board (IFAB), the games law-making body, approved a two-year trial period allowing technology to be used in four questionable cases: to determine if a goal has been scored, sending off, penalties and mistaken identity.

Olympics organizers in Rio do Janeiro struggling with tickets, 50% remain unsold

Rio organizing committee spokesman Mario Andrada revealed that only about 47% of the 7.5 million tickets on offer have been sold so far.

With five months to go before the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazilian organizers are struggling to sell tickets for South America’s first games. The IOC president Thomas Bach said the locals will buy up tickets at the last minute.

Rolling Stones will perform free in Cuba, where for years they were banned for “ideological deviation”

The Stones added the show, likely to be the biggest rock concert ever staged in Cuba,  to a Latin American tour that had been due to end on 17 March in Mexico .

The Rolling Stones will perform a free outdoor concert in Havana on March 25, the band's publicist announced on Tuesday, a milestone event in a country where the Castro brothers' regime once banned the group's music as an “ideological deviation.”

Infantino led all candidates with 88 votes after the one round of voting causing a look of shock and surprise to overcome Sheikh Salman who garnered 85.

UEFA secretary general Gianni Infantino defeated expected frontrunner Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa of Bahrain, former FIFA vice president Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein of Jordan and former FIFA executive Jerome Champagne.

The FIFA ad-hoc electoral committee denied the Jordanian prince request to use the transparent booths.

FIFA presidential candidate Prince Ali Al Hussein of Jordan is appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to implement transparent voting booths in Friday’s election. CAS says Prince Ali is asking for “urgent provisional measures” against the Feb. 15 decision of the FIFA ad-hoc electoral committee to deny his request to use the transparent booths.

Brazil will hold Olympic Games despite Zika, says president Rousseff

Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff said that the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro would take place despite the Zika virus, at a time when various athletes have expressed their fears about competing.
