There was a lot of skepticism going into the newest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe especially with the departure of director Edgar Wright after years of being in production. However despite it all, Antman stands out as one of the strongest entries of the franchise with Paul Rudd giving a great performance as Scott Lang aka The Ant Man while Michael Douglas is a great mentor as Hank Pym and Evangiline Lily works well as Hank's estranged daughter Hope who reluctantly joins in on their mission. If there is one week spot, like most of the Marvel movie villains Corey Stoll as Darren Cross is a big afterthought and still shows that villain character development is something Marvel Studios really needs to work on.

I wasn't expecting to enjoy Ant Man as much as I did, based on the reviews I'd read, but being bit of a Comic fanboy I had to take my sons to see it. Frankly it was great fun - didn't take itself too seriously and in fact had a lot of comic moments which made me laugh. The story was good and interesting, and Michael Douglas added a real touch of class - all in all the actors worked well together, the story was fun, didn't take itself too seriously and it was just very enjoyable. I have to say I enjoyed it more than Age of Ultron, which although good was a different style and on review a bit disjointed.....bring on Civil War !!!!

Again Marvel has pulled it out of the bag with another great movie! Going in to cinema to see this i had my doubts, not with the characters as such but more so with Paul Rudd playing Ant Man. Dont get me wrong, i really like Paul Rudd's comedies, but i never saw him as the kind of actor that Marvel would go for. Within 15 minutes of Ant Man i was hooked and i was wrong to doubt Marvel! Paul Rudd was incredible as Ant Man! Great story, great action, brilliant comedy, and seriously..... Paul Rudd is perfect for the job! Cant wait for Captain America: Civil War now to see how Ant Man integrates with The Cap, Iron Man and SpiderMan!

This is easily the most risky Marvel mainstream movie to date, many could say GOTG, but it had such a bonkers synopsis and narrative that it could only be the success that it was.

I don't know if its because Age Of Ultron was beyond underwhelming for me, but I found Ant-Man to be one of the most refreshing, funniest, and character driven superhero movies that's not a sequel I've seen in a while.

And it's the most family friendly movie Marvel has made to date. Rudd is brilliant as Lang, and the most human of all the phases characters. He has no special powers, and doesn't have the resources like Stark. He just has his intelligence and cunning, and he's the marvel character you can release to the most. Why? Because he's a normal person just trying to be a better man.

But as good as Rudd is, it's Douglas who steals the film, and his scenes with Stoll are the most intense and satisfying moments in the film. Douglas shows us in this film what an intense screen presence he can be, and like Costner in Man Of Steel, it's been a while since he's shone in a movie.

It takes a while for the film to get going, in fact, the first twenty minutes feel really out of place compared to the rest of the film, and Pena really doesn't do any favours for the film, he almost makes the film become spoof like. I'm guessing that Wright didn't have much to do with that characters arc.

But going back to Wright, there is some wonderful, genuinely laugh out loud moments that has the auteurs mark all over it. The training montages are as funny as they are exciting, and there is one part that involves an enlarged garden gnome that had me in fits of laughter for minutes.

Ant-Man introduces Paul Rudd as our new Avenger. Scott Lang (Rudd) is a thief/ hacker who spent time in jail. He wants nothing more than to go straight and establish a life with visitation rights for his daughter (Abby Ryder Fortson). His wife (Judy Greer) is about to move on with a policeman (Bobby Cannavale).

In a subplot Dr. Hank Pym is played by Michael Douglas who comes on the scene, almost doing an aside, and says "I'm still alive." He was part of a company that shrinks the space between atoms. It is now run by Darren Cross (Corey Stoll) with the assistance of his own daughter (Evangeline Lilly).

The two subplots come together with formula results, it was like watching the first "Iron Man" again which isn't too bad, just predictable. The script is filled with humorous moments and a few memorable lines. It leads us into an Avengers sequel which isn't bad for Paul Rudd fans.

Guide: No sex or nudity. Minor swearing. No F-bombs.

Ant man is possibly one of the superheroes with the most creative super powers: power to be ant-sized and power the control ants to help him fight baddies! yep!

The film is fast-paced, action-packed and although I'd definitely class it as an "action-superhero movie" and not a comedy, it has a small sprinkling of humour in there too (no doubt contributions from the brilliant writer, Edgar Wright). I wished it had even more comedy in there if I'm honest. Paul Rudd was a good choice as the main likeable and lighthearted hero, and I liked the way the film ties in with other Marvel movies too, making that universe feel fuller as the movie gives nods to the existence of Iron Man's Stark industries and to The Avengers.

Overall, an enjoyable film if you like superhero action movies.
