AmazonBasics 7 Port USB 2.0 Hub
AmazonBasics 7 Port USB 2.0 Hub (view larger).

Supports USB 1.1 and 2.0 Devices

This mini hub supports USB 1.1 and 2.0 connections, so it's compatible with all your newest and legacy portable devices. Connect digital cameras, iPods and iPhones, card readers, USB speakers, and more.

USB 2.0 or 3.0?

AmazonBasics USB hubs and cables have different version numbers (2.0 and 3.0) that indicates their transfer speed. The higher the version number, the faster they can work. However, to get the full power, the host and the device must have the same version. If not, the lowest USB version in the chain will control the speed. For example, if your computer has a 2.0 USB port, your cable is 3.0, and your phone is 3.0, you will achieve 2.0 speed. If all three (computer, cable, and phone) all have 3.0 then you will have 3.0 speed. The AmazonBasics USB 3.0 4-Port Hub is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and 1.1.

System Requirements

Desktop or notebook computer with USB port, and one of the following operating systems (no driver needed): Windows 2000/Win XP/Vista/Windows 7 & Mac 10.1 up. Connect digital cameras, iPods and iPhones, card readers, USB speakers, and more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ideal for a Raspberry Pi 4 Mar 2014
By Ian
Verified Purchase
Rather than having a power supply for my Raspberry Pi and another power supply for a hub, I wanted to power the Pi from the hub. The trouble is that most hubs will only supply 500mA per port, which is not really enough for a Pi. Some hubs tout a higher current "charging mode" option, but that usually requires the attached device to actively request it. Since the Pi just connects the power terminals, that wont work. This hub is simpler insofar as it just allows a higher current draw of 1.2A from two of the ports.

That means a slightly incestuous arrangement of two cables where the Pi is powered from the hub and also connected to the input of the hub, but it does work well and saves on one mains power adapter. Note this hub does not "back-power" the Pi down the host cable.

The hub itself is rather smaller than I expected (not a bad thing), and the base plate can be attached to the side instead to allow a horizontal mount. That does mean the hub has an ugly lump sticking out of the side when mounted vertically. It is a very light device so, with up to 8 USB cables plus the power cord, it is no way going to stay where you put it unless you stick it down. It can be fiddly to insert cables or devices into the closely-packed sockets, so probably best not plan to use this for anything other than a semi-permanent setup.

I haven't really stressed the capabilities of the hub, but, in addition to the Pi power, I have had 4 real devices attached, including an external HDD also powered from this hub, and it behaves perfectly.

I was impressed with Amazon's "frustration free" packaging, being easy to open and made almost entirely of recyclable card.

Overall I like the functionality and would buy another one, but I would have preferred a simpler shape without the stand and a more accessible layout of sockets given, judging from it's weight, it must have mostly empty space inside it.

5.0 out of 5 stars These are nice, simple 7 port hubs 18 Aug 2014

These are nice, simple 7 port hubs. I used one as a 'docking' set for my laptop at home, to I didn;t have to plug in keyboard, mouse, RS232/UART adapter, backup drive etc. each time, and it works just fine. Bought a second one for my desktop now, so I don't have to keep fiddling around at the back of the PC, or plug in to the front and then break the connector off when I swivel my chair.

Bought this to replace a Belkin hub that failed. This does the job perfectly and at a great price. The only points I can fault are that the supplied USB cable is quite short, and the unit is very light, it will keep falling over I found a sticky paddid the trick. Overall though a great unit at a great price

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, practical item 8 July 2014

Works well, which of course is not a surprise. Packed plainly, in brown cardboard, but enough to arrive safely. The item has 2 slots front and 5 back. All are easily accessible and plenty of room to stick in even quite chunky USB items in. I keep this on my desk and I have a few wireless receivers in the back and USB drives in the front. It is smaller than other hubs I have used, but because it has a power supply it needs an extra plug socket which is not so good. Overall, a great investment.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK, but doesn't do some things I expected 24 Jun 2014

Works as a multi-way hub but will not recharge my iPhone4 unless also connected to a computer. I think the iPhone requires a valid USB host to be indicated, no just power.
Does power my Raspberry Pi and peripherals happily via the power-only socket.

No problems so far, seems to provide stability and power. Very light and small but needs to be anchored in some way to desk top

4.0 out of 5 stars somewhat tiny 16 May 2014

been waiting for this to come back in stock for a very long time and am happy I now have it. Item came on time and was boxed very nice, but let me make this very clear the picture makes this item look big, trust me its not, its so tiny but at the same time I like that as it fits on my desk, but if you think your gettigng a big usb hub think again, overall the hub is great and does what its ment to do.

I will be ordering a 2nd one as back up as these are very hard to get in stock

5.0 out of 5 stars USB Hub 30 April 2014

Not a bad product, but like so many others the design could be improved. With 3 or 4 Flash drives plugged in, the unit has a tendency to topple over. Also having the power lead connected at the front means that it is always in the way.
